Stegman is old. It was built in the 60s. I may be wrong (and too lazy to research it) but I think it was originally built for the ag department to show off cattle, not for basketball. They had a rodeo there when I was in school. I think that's why it's "U" shaped. There used to be a pen for cattle just outside.
While I would miss it for sentimental reasons (like memories of climbing to the top), the best way for UGA to show they're serious about basketball is to destroy that dinosaur and build a new facility.

I think you’re correct in terms of its initial intent (but it has also held Olympic events and concerts - notably the Allman Bros - over the years.

It’s a fine on-campus venue for WBB and Gymnastics and other non-sporting events that require ample indoor seating. But for what Mens basketball has become nationally, they could build a 9-10k seater as a part of the Classic Center downtown and pack the thing out consistently with its proximity to bars before and after games, alone
