When it rains, it pours. As good as they played last weekend against Arkansas, it’s a totally different team that got off the plane in Nashville this weekend.

Starting pitching has really struggled and the bullpen hasn’t been any better. Vandy has 23 hits in 2 games, and our staff has given up 11 BB’s on top of that. 152 pitches last night (61% strikes) and 163 pitches tonight (57% strikes) is pretty rough. We’re not getting ahead in early in counts and end up having to throw “hitters count” pitches. Offense is scoring runs and keeping us in games, but they can only do so much. Riopelle hit 3 bombs tonight, but then we’ve got other guys going 0-4 with 4 K’s. Some of the at-bats tonight were hard to watch. It seemed like the later in the game it got, the more some guys seemed to be guessing, pressing, and may not have even had a plan at the plate.

I get that sometimes it’s just not your day. That’s baseball. That’s life. But it feels like the stars are going to have to align in order for this team to put enough pieces together to get good outings from our SP’s and enough runs to mitigate the bullpen.
