Genuinely curious, what’s the lure to A&M for elite defensive lineman?

Not meant as a flame and don’t bring up money, cheating, etc…

Aggie fans, y’all have produced some really good lineman/edge guys recently dating back to Von Miller.

Do y’all just have some good staff in that area that has stayed around or what?

Miller and Garrett are both from the Dallas area. Huge alumni base for aggies unfortunately for me.

Not really sure why we seem to get some of the best. I guess some schools are known for certain things and can help them get into the NFL.

Two most important position groups in football are the OL and DL. If you can take away the run, it really limits what the other teams offense can do. A lot of teams still have not figured that out yet.

You have to think that moving to the SEC will only help sustain trend. The Big 12 became a hurdle for defenders to overcome. There’s a label on that conference, which it MIGHT be starting to shed.

Over here, there’s an element of pride in defense.

Attempt at serious response - there is history. Coaches like RC Slocum and Bob Davie were good coaches who turned out NFL quality DLs and LBs. It became a tradition of the “Wrecking Crew” defense and a vocal fan base that got loud for their defense in one of the highest capacity stadiums in a football crazy state.

Just as easy to ask what the lure would be for elite DLs to go anywhere else.

Hot women that have all their teeth.

Word on the street though is Price and Robinson are our top two recruiters and great at relating with the kids and building relationships. But that’s crazy talk. NIL fund, we are the only ones that have it figured out. (Rolling eyes)

The state has always produced good edge rushers and DL I feel like. Particularly from some schools and areas that are traditional strongholds for us (DeSoto, ETX). UT has struggled mightily recently developing DL which has only helped us land players

Terry Price is a great recruiter and has been around forever as well. Played at A&M and I don’t think has any desire to leave or move up. Jimbo added Elijah Robinson who is now one of top three or four recruiters in the country as the other DL coach. That’s why it’s kind of pushed into overdrive

It is either:

1.) A&M has a proven recent history of winning conference and national titles and these young men want to be part of that excellence.

OR

2.) There is some incentive that has nothing to do with success on the field that means a great deal to these young men.

A&M has had some excellent defenses over the years, with good defensive coaches that sent a fair number to the pros. Linemen such as Brandon Mitchell, Jacob Green, Ray Childress, Sam Adams were All American DLs before Miller.
