Some may be surprised that Alabama's out of state recruiting efforts goes back 100 years.
George H Denny (Namesake of Bryant-Denny Stadium and Denny Chimes) oversaw a large expansion and marketing efforts specifically centered in New England. Capitalizing on the football team's success, he heavily advertised Alabama in Northeast newspapers as an affordable alternative to schools in the Northeast.
It's why to this day why a good chunk of students come from New England, because they are legacies and their families have been going there for generations. It's also why the university has a significantly large Jewish population than you'd see at many Southern universities. They've been a fixture since 1912.
