It’s not about winning anymore at all. It’s all about the NFL.

Coaches come and go for the bigger better deal all the time. Hell, most of us would jump ship if someone offered to hire us away from where we work for more money. Thanks to spectacularly bad decisions by the NCAA (which could have nipped all of this in the bud years ago with a few compromises) this is what we have now.

Most of the kids entering the portal are doing so for the same reason they would transfer back in the day though. They don't like their coaches, they are homesick, or they just aren't getting the playing time they would like. The difference is back then transferring (except in certain special situations) was a tremendous pain in the behind for an athlete. Now it is easy peasy.

If we had these transfer rules in place in the 70s and 80s we would see the same thing happening then that we do now.

Absolutely. But, coaches are tied to contracts. If they break that contract by leaving early, there is a penalty to be paid in the form of a buyout.

There is a clear difference there.

People act like coaches just come and go as they please, but they don't. There are penalties that much be paid by someone (coach, school) if they leave. There are no penalties for a player leaving at the moment.

If there were no contracts and buyouts for coaches you would see a whole lot more movements among coaches, too.
