Kelly: all-time wins at Notre Dame; two CFP appearances; one Natty game appearance; future HOF inductee.

Napier- HC at USL; sun belt champs

Lol. LSU made the right decision.

But Napier coached in Louisiana for 4 years and was once a position coach for Saban!

Napier might end up being a great coach at UF but Kelly is a more proven commodity and I don't think Woody wanted to take a chance on an up-and-comer type with this hire.

I don't want this to be a thing. Kelly is a far more proven and far more successful coach and is more likely to have success quicker. Napier is going to be behind on talent and he hasn't shown he can compete without the best talent.

Sunbelt Billy will either prove himself worthy or not for everyone to see. Just let it play out.

Time will tell, Napier still has a long way to go in his coaching career. LSU couldn't afford another mis-hire so they went with the tried and proven Kelly. That don't mean Napier will not turn into a good coach you never know we may look back at this 10 years from now and regret it. I think Napier would have had a better chance to land this job if Coach zero would not have left us in such shambles.

What this says to me is LSU wanted a complete overhaul of the football athletic department. With that, you need someone that has built a program and sustained. Don't know if Napier would have done what Kelly has done so far.

Napier may be a good coach, but would he the best coach to carry out the transformation of the program. From him hiring Raymond, I don't think Napier was the right person at this time for LSU.

Why are people so obsessed with Napier on this board? The coach we really need to be asking if we made a mistake by not hiring him, is Dave Aranda.

They're going to ply each other every year. We don't have to guess. We'll see who was the better choice in due time

i get what you're doing here, but you're comparing:
- Notre Dame to ULL(USL)
- a 60 year old who spent 11 yrs at ND vs a 42 year old who spent 4 yrs at ULL

kinda feels like the Mulkey to Wade comparison. Obviously the older coach is better bc they have a proven career. Doesn't mean the younger coach can't be just as successful

I agree with you though; I'd rather have the older, experienced, future HOF coach too.

Kelly is a know quantity.

Napier has a lot of potential but also high risk.

Can’t rule out Napier long term, but LSU was not in a position to take a BIG risk at Napier working out. UF has had a string of wrong coaches and needs a home run hire. We will know in a few years if they got one or not.

Of course we did. Woodward hires proven coaches. Napier, IMO, is not proven. His sample size at ULL is far too small.

No contest. Kelly was the right decision to do a complete overhaul.
