Michael Amiridis, Ph.D., current Chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago and former Provost of the University of South Carolina Columbia
I have no fricking clue anything about him
What do the more connected people have to say?
Will be fire Tanner?
quote:
Prior to his leadership at UIC, Amiridis spent more than two decades on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus, serving as a professor, dean of the College of Engineering and Computing, and the university’s executive vice president for academic affairs and provost before leaving for Chicago in 2015.

Personally I am very happy with the hire. I wanted the guy from purdue considering he was an engineering guy, so to get Amiridis makes me pretty happy.
He has been at USC in some capacity for 20 years, so he does love the university. I guess when it comes to football and athletics that means something

I think Amiridis is a good hire. To be honest, we needed a safe bet after Caslen and I don't believe Amiridis is the kind of guy to cause any issues among administrators, faculty, students, or alumni. He'll pretty much just work to keep SC respectable.
Is he kind of guy that will actually fire Tanner? I'm not sure. If anything, he may lean on Tanner to retire over time rather than abruptly kicking him out. I do hope I'm wrong but I'm not sure he's aiming to rock the boat much.
He'll be good at attracting/implementing research initiatives and improving our national rankings to some degree. He also knows how to walk-the-walk with our big donors and could get Darla Moore to come back around. He's definitely far more competent and personable than Caslen in that regard.
