I’m still baffled at how bad they’ve been in basketball since joining the conference. Especially while everyone else upgrades at HC. They’ve had maybe the two worst coaches in the conference since they’ve joined.

There is no doubt they have the worst athletic department in the SEC and it’s not really close. Atleast Vandy has baseball.

Some accounts blame Bernie Machen (then president of UF as well as the SEC board president) for pulling a lot of strings to make it happen. SEC wanted Texas A&M and there was a discussion about who else to take. I now have forgotten what other schools were in consideration, but I think it was West Virginia, Virginia Tech(?) and a couple more. Machen grew up in St. Louis and apparently was the driving force for making the 14th team Missouri.

I kinda like our little battle of the Columbia's ... they've made the conference championship more than the cult in college station has.
