Is there a rational argument for the NCAA going forward?

P5 schools certainly don’t want them and there simply isn’t enough financial support from the lower university divisions to sustain them. Emmert and crew are likely standing in quicksand.

Yes. Without the NCAA there would be no need for conferences at all. The haves of the world: Bama, ND, Texas, TAMU, Auburn, UGA etc would go Indy and make more money. The Missouri’s of the world would go broke and not have a football program within 10 years.
