I thought Coker would get more of a look in the pros. Any idea what happened?

I thought so too because he fit the basic mold of “big athletic QB with a strong arm” you typically see scouts gushing about.

Here’s one take on his negatives
quote:

Cons:
Poor footwork in the pocket under pressure, retreats and scrambles rather than step up. Sees ghosts constantly and will panic when reads don’t open up quickly. Often fails to go to checkdown/hot. Methodical processors who moves slowly through his reads. Doesn’t readily set up and zip the ball with confidence. Delivery is very robotic. Terribly inaccurate down the field. Just one year of decent production in a run-heavy offense. Easy completions padded stats.
Coker enjoyed some flashes of brilliance during Alabama’s run to a national title, so much so that he put himself on the radar of NFL scouts with his prototypical size and big arm.

Unfortunately Coker looks the part more than he plays like it, struggling to place passes properly down the field and consistently unraveling under pressure. The Crimson Tide passer has the arm to make all the throws, but his accuracy only extends to clean-pocket tosses in the short-intermediate range, and his lethargic release grants defenders the opportunity to contest catch points. Coker has some developmental potential and will work hard to improve his game, but right now he’s a camp body who will need to prove himself during the summer to garner a roster spot.

You also have to consider he has a really small sample size of playing well. He only started for one year with an up and down, game manager type performances for at least half the year. He did sign onto a few practice squads but obviously he didn’t play well enough in practices to stick on.

His release was so damn slow from what I remember. I remember in his 1st year here when he got in against FAU it was noticeable how much longer it took him to deliver the ball on bubble screens than it did Blake Sims.
