It's to create buzz like Ellitor said but I think it's also to avoid as much backlash.
It's like slowly breaking the bad news to somebody instead of blindsiding them.

I say power 5 conference champs get in. One wildcard (from all other conferences)
Top 2 teams get a bye.
That's as far as I want it to ever go. Once you lose your conference, you should be eliminated. It's stupid you can be National Champ but not Conf Champ.

I was coming to post something similar. I'm hoping not being in the initial top 4 will get the team fired up. You would think losing the NC last year would be motivation enough, but maybe they need a little inspiration.

I would rather them do it this early so you can get an idea of who they like. But they better be ready for a backlash if 2 SEC schools are in it tonight.

I won't be mad nor will I even watch. It doesn't matter who's in the top 4 today. If we win out and aren't in the final 4 in the final poll, I will be extremely mad

You didn't provide any reasoning for having wildcard teams.
