Seemed like we added a new play on 3rd down besides whirly-bird throw it deep. Has Gus been reading this board? Seems like we threw it to Duke last season, then it went away when White became qb. Cannot be arm strength because Brandon Cox was the master of the slant pass. Maybe we are growing as an offense.

doesn't matter bc we still don't use them when we need them, aka the red zone

Wouldn't a slant be more effective when Safeties are playing deeper?

They are affective as long as the Safeties aren't shallow, especially w/ teams trying to play their LBs up to stop our run.

It also works better when QB can see over oline.

Quick slant to Melvin Ray is money every time if we can make sure the ball is put in the right spot. Not sure JJ can get it there on a consistent basis.

Gus if you read this how about some drag routes and get Pettway the ball down close. that guy's a damn bulldozer.

and for the iron bowl we need to run half a dozen different versions of pick plays and run them about 50 times.

The play where KJ21 comes back across the formation is actually a perfect H back play. Pettway and Cox are both talented, but I like Pettway as a receiver a little better.

I'd love to see the H-Back get the ball more, receiving or handing it to them on misdirection runs. Pettway trucked a couple defenders when he got the ball that one time on offense. These guys need to be more than blockers.

I'm not big on questioning play calling, because we have no clue what the coaches have seen and know about the team.

However, our offense from 8 yds out seems very predictable. Give it to the HB on the wk side or throw some quick hitting passes, instead of losing yards on first down by running to the right, then bootleg rt with 2 wr's to throw to
