What's the reason Gus can't get a top QB recruit to come to Auburn?

Is it because Lashlee can't recruit? Is it his loyalty to shitty upperclassmen, and QBs don't want to wait for their turn? I'm just scratching my head wondering why a top QB recruit wouldn't jump at the chance to probably come in and start from day one. Especially with the WR talent that is coming up.

With that said, Stidham come to Auburn!!!

I have heard the fact that we can not develop a QB or allow them to work with QB gurus.

He got Cam here.
He got Frazier here.
He got Johnson here.
He got White here.

All highly recruited. All thought to be good. It's not that we can't get them here. It's we get the wrong ones here.

Gatewood is also committed for next years class. Stidham still considering coming.

How many top schools wanted White? I don't recall him being highly sought after. Or Woody Barrett for that matter. These are the guys we get when passed by others.

It's not that they don't come here, it's that they aren't properly prepared for SEC level competition once they are here.

White had offers from Auburn, OSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Miami, Houston, West Virginia

Barrett had offers from Auburn, OSU, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas, Clemson, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Alabama, Michigan State

I think part of the honest truth is that we target high profile dual threat guys and we used to not have to compete with every school for them and now there are so many offenses going to the dual threat guys. Look at Bama, the last two or three big profile guys they took were top rated dual threats.

If we get Stidham to come to Auburn and he adjusts as well as we would hope, that would give us a good option for 1 or 2 years to get Gatewood or Barret back on track and put us back how we need to be. This year we are a good quarterback from being a 1 loss team pretty easily and fighting for that one loss.

Out of those teams you listed, how many were solid offers? I'm sure bama wouldn't have taken Barrett unless Hurts didn't commit

That's my point. We're getting the leftovers. Hell, uat just got a commit from the #1 DT QB, and Hurts is a freaking freshman.

I agree and we are taking 3rd or 4th choices most years but most teams don't get their first choice. I really wish we would go after Narcisse or Mond like hell if it appears that Stidham goes to A&M and possibly if we get him. Maybe JF3 will leave and Johnson is gone so that leaves us thin there anyway, taking two won't hurt nearly as bad this year with a lot of young competition.

Hard to judge. But White was recruited hard right after we jumped on him.

Don't really remember Barrett's recruitment.

Star rating is usually a pretty good indicator of how hard the kid was recruited. These sites pretend they do their own scouting but they mainly use who is recruiting them and how many are recruiting them to come up with their rankings.

Both were low to mid 4 stars.

Well the problem there is you're using Bama for comparison. Compare any program in the country to them and it will look terrible.

Also, most teams don't get their first option. So complaining about getting our 2nd or 3rd option is ridiculous.

Suppose you were a 4-star QB coming out of high school and getting some looks from a few good D-1 schools. When has Auburn proved to you that they can develop a freshman player such as yourself in a meaningful way?

OK. I'll use aTm then. They've been able to get top QB after top QB. And they may steal Stidham too. Ole Miss has been cleaning up with QBs too. Clemson too.

We're not getting our 2nd or 3rd choice either.

aTm has had worse QB collapses than we have. Not sure I'd use them for comparison purposes.

I'll agree with that. Gus has to be pretty stupid to not see that he needs a QB coach and OC badly. But that would mean the control freak wouldn't have his puppet anymore.

Ole Miss:
They got Shea Patterson. I'm pretty sure he had strong ties to Ole Miss before recruitment. Other than that who did they get? Kelly wasn't highly recruited. Bo Wallace wasn't highly recruited.

A&M:
Kyler Murray is a legacy. Kyle Allen was also highly recruited. Who else have they gotten? Kenny Hill was rated lower than White and Barrett...

So these teams you're listing as recruiting really well at the QB position are getting one or two guys with strong connections to their schools

I know Barrett was recruited hard by Meyer and Ohio State. If it wasn't is it was them

No we aren't. I don't follow many positions in recruiting, but I do with RBs and QBs. And White wasn't even on the radar to begin with. Neither was Barrett. They were, well" those guys are off the board so who's left now?" players.
