I think he moves to corner after this year.

He won't. As long as Ellis and Cheese are here he will be at star. Sucks, he has the size to be an elite shut down guy at corner.

Speaking of star, does any one else hate it as much as I do?

I'll say this, it doesn't seem to be doing us any favors on the recruiting trail, and it doesn't seem to give us any type of advantage on the field. I expected our rush defense to suffer a bit while our pass defense improved, and it has been the polar opposite of that.

I started a thread on this post USCe game and got bashed for it. It's already cost us a few recruits, and its taking away from the safety / cb position.

Therezie is probably one of the better defensive players we have but he's usually taken out of the play covering the slot man. Teams are putting their best guy in the slot because they know its a mismatch. That's what USCe did and that's what Bama will do. Watching Therezie chase down Amari Cooper is going to be sickening.

so where should therezie be playing? The star puts RT in the box and allows him to help out in run support and blitz more often. He's much better in the box than he is covering.

or do you want him in space at safety?... that's not his strength either. RT is fast, but he doesn't have the fluid hips most good DBs have.

I don't think we can fully judge EJ's defense until he's playing a majority of guys he recruited/signed for his defense.... i think, what?... three guys he signed started against Ole Miss (two safeties and monty adams).

No.

Our base look is the exact same look that 'Bama uses as it's Nickel. They have a rush OLB down at the line and bring in another safety in to play the other OLB spot (or the star position as they call it too).

Just because our corners are getting beat, our safeties are missing tackles, or we don't have a pass rush, has nothing to do with the play/alignment/whatever of one position on the defense.

The scheme is what most defenses are going to in order to defend against spread teams and still maintain ability to stop the run against pro style.

Typically that star player isn't playing the DB part of the hybrid as much as Therezie does.

Boundery Safety

Not the case this year. Teams are using a lot of motion and different formations to completely take him out of the play.

I agree with this but at boundery safety he would be assigned a section of the field to cover (a box) and he would be brought down in run support. He wouldn't be chasing every teams best wr around all game.

Rudy Ford has about 60 tackles this season while Therezie has 24 or 25.

Doesn't matter anyway with RT he gone after this season. I just hate to see the same thing happen to Nick Ruffin / Mackenro ect...

Well both of those guys are early in their careers and it stands to reason that both will not stay at one position, assuming they're both too talented to keep off the field. And I believe Ruffin has gotten some run at safety, but I may be confusing him with Roberts.

Yeah you right. I just hope the staff trys all these young guys at corner or safety before getting them in the log jam at star

Fwiw, mackenro's injury is probably why Ruffin is the backup at star right now.
