What was the real story behind the Georgia - Alabama scheduling screw-up?

All I remember is that leaders from our school went to meeting and next thing I know both teams are either at home or away at the same time.

Did we get something in return for this? Had no choice? etc.

I thought the reasoning had to do with expanding the SEC.

When we added 2 teams, it screwed up conference schedules.

I thought the agreement was we only do this for a few years.

I think it has to do with the fact that there are 6 division games and they want 3 home and 3 away games for each team.
