Surely everyone here can agree on this one. Right?

Yes, but Phillips had a decent day yesterday I thought.

Not sure about later Bc the alcohol was hitting me but early on I think his first two punts were like 35 and 37 yards

That's not good

We punted 5 times for an average for 40 yards. He averages 41 yards per punt on the year. Thats best for 66th in the country.

Jacksonville State, Arkansas, A&M, UGA, and Idaho he averaged less than 40 yards per punt.

Lets put it this way. The worst punter in the country averaged 38 yards per game. While the best 4 averaged 48.

Steven Clark averaged 42 yards his SR year.

Using avg yards for a punter is dumb. Kicks inside the 20 is the only thing that matters.

Phillips did not have a good year but he wasnt bad yesterday.

Yeah, not even close. Avg yards by itself of course is dumb, but saying it's not important is crazy. There are tons of times when we are punting from our own 20-25 yard line or so and we aren't going to get it inside the 20. It's important to have a nice long kick then.

You need to factor both hang time and avg yards for a punter, but both are important.

Phillips was generally very good with hang time this year, but he was pretty meh with distance. He was around average overall, but my biggest issue with him was he was crazy inconsistent. When he was having bad games he was having terrible kicks.

It actually ranks higher if you don't have a good offense.

Our coaches prioritize hang time over length. They'd rather a shorter, unreturnable punt than a longer one that we'd have to cover

My wife prioritized hand time over length as well.

I always will give up 5 yards to start a possession if I can ensure that no touchdown will happen.
