Like I told StoneHog last night, if you can't tell the difference between regular bathroom graffiti and this then I can't help you. When you have a threat to kill people, you have to take it seriously no matter what it is.

The guy did the right thing notifying police about this.

Nope

This was an overreaction.

What if the date written was August 30th 2014? Should the University shut down because of an unsubstantiated threat scribbled on a bathroom stall?

Go back to AUFamily, retard.

I am so thankful you are in no position to make important decisions for Auburn University.

Haha...that was a simple response from a simple mind.

Just wait for the copycats now. The University could be shut down every week if they make future decisions similar to this. Hopefully, the University will learn from this and develop a policy to address issues like this.

Which would be what? Punish anyone that finds a written threat on campus, especially after all of the terrorism that has gone on around the campus? What an excellent idea!

Yes, they overreacted by canceling class, but you were implying punishing the guy who reported the graffiti for reporting it. That makes no sense.

Not necessarily to punish the person reporting it, but the University needs to have more than what they had to cancel.

Say Auburn didn't cancel classes today. Say this psycho shot and killed one person. Would you be taking this same stance? Turning a blind eye to this sort of thing is ludicrous. It was probably a hoax, but what if it wasn't?

Your first post completely misrepresented what your point was then.

Personally, I don't see a reason to call the police. Punishing someone for simply reporting it is not the policy I would suggest. The University needs to have more than wall graffiti in a bathroom to cancel classes, and they need to come up with a policy to address it.

Most people are not proficient with their handgun, and will make a shooting more dangerous by firing into a confined space with groupings of people.

With that said, special permits should be considered for on campus carry. Stringent proficiency testing should be required. From 10-20 yards, I want the concealed carry individual to be able to place a head shot with a single round. The last thing needed is a bunch of cum filled renegades side-arming rounds "at" the threat. I could probably qualify for any consistency testing with a handgun, but from what I see at the range every week, most people would not.

Heard that. I spend way to much money on ammo these days.

Yea, I was a little overzealous with my first comment. So what?

If you shoot at all you spend too much on ammo. It's gotten ridiculous.

Yeah, I bought two Sig 1911s a few months back when they were running a buy one get one free deal for the .45/.22.. My thinking was the .22 could be used as a target gun, since the platform is the same, hence saving me money compared to .45 ACP. Come to find out, .22 ammo is over .10 a round now and you can't find it. While it's still cheaper, it's crazy that taking my .22 to the range costs me over $5 to shoot.

The cancellation was coupled with the fact it was also the anniversary of VT shooting

Yeah I have a G23 and spend $15 on a box of ammo. Probably shoot a box a week.

Anyone that thinks that the university just up and canceled class because of some bathroom graffiti isn't looking at the whole picture.

It isn't the threat that got to the administration - if you'll notice, the university makes sure to mention that the police don't believe there's any serious danger at every point they can.

What got to them was the firestorm over the story spreading so fast. Parents were so up in arms about the possibility of having class today despite the threatened shooting that Dr. Gogue would have been burned at the stake had they not canceled class. This was a matter of financial security and nothing more.

When parents are sending emails/calls by the thousands to Auburn and likely getting state politicians involved, you have to cave.

Auburn was having class today

Yep. And that very passive-aggressive AU Alert message made it very clear. I can't decide how I feel about cancelling class. I wish it hadn't been necessary, but a majority of students would likely have stayed home anyway. I agree that April 16th being the anniversary of the VT shooting had a lot to do with the reaction.

I know some concealed carry every day on campus, but the number of concealed firearms on campus would be likely have been much higher today. With an increased police presence specifically looking for hidden weapons, it would have been a very tense situation. It's just an incredibly shitty situation where it was likely a jackass thinking he is funny. However, the pressure from outside combined with any minute chance of an attack to be too much to allow class to go on.
