Alabama has a better campus. Hands down. It is what it is.

Vinnie was a coaches son. No legit argument for that one. Brad Smelley I can see. I've never heard Holcombes name

Community pressure is totally different in those parts of the state.

It really is a different world altogether than Lee County, etc.

During the melt this morning someone mentioned that we should cut off the Auburn HS football coaches. Was this just melt talk? Do the coaches at that high school get any special treatment b/c they're in the same town as the university???

fwiw, I don't think Alabama's ever signed a guy from Alexander City... there have been several that have gone to auburn.

same goes for opelika... can't think of any that signed with bama (tho Melvin Oliver went to LSU when saban was there back in the day). Roberts was committed by flipped.

This is fair, until they end up in the shithole that is Tuscaloosa. If Evans had gone to UCLA people would be disappointed but would understand.

Funny you mention that because the flood of Ben Russell players who went to Auburn in the 2000's were coached by a guy who is a huge bammer, Willie Carl Martin. He left Benjamin Russell when saban hired him as director of player development, whatever the frick that means.
As for Corey Grant, he wanted to come Auburn from the beginning but his dad just happened to be big buddies with Willie Carl.

Question, did Evans tell the Auburn coaches that he was coming to Auburn this past weekend?

If true, then I understand being upset with him for lying, but given that very same attribute, one shouldn't be upset he gone.

I'm mean sure a 5 star is awesome, 40% of them make it to the NFL, like Richard Sherman. Dude is a beast and h... wait... 3-star. Well, how about SB winning QB Russell Wilson, a... 2-star.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather Gus and this S&C program have a bunch of 3-stars and 4-stars who committed to Auburn EARLY than to have 18 year old 5-stars who are getting way too much attention way too EARLY and reveling in it way too much on NSD.

Sounds like the class Auburn got, is awesome as is.

Great point. Evans got a lot of attention. Sean White - none. Last I checked QB is the most important position on the field.

Watching the situation from a little more distantly than most of you, it is shocking to me that a player would go to a big rival of his mom and dad's alma mater. I mean, his dad played here, right? Personally, I know that growing up I watched a lot of the same teams my dad did by default. He is from Cincinnati, so I do have some affinity for the Bearcats and Bungals. I can't imagine if I had grown up in the city of a major football school with my dad being an ex-player there and going to a major rival. I'm just a bit perplexed, I guess.

His dad was a bust and was butt hurt about it. His dad also milked the attention of his son. His mom didn't seem too happy. Hope they enjoy living in Auburn.

Ah, fair enough. That would certainly complicate things. But yeah, I bet they're real favorites right now.
