Why are so many on this board begging for him to be promoted to DC? Can someone give a rundown of his credentials?

Or is this just an attempt to maintain continuity?

Continuity in defensive schemes and recruiting.

Without that, Gus wouldn't have a fighting chance next year and he is supposedly already fighting for his job.

I won't be upset with T-rob. I do however think Gus needs to run things how he wants to run them. If he is going to get fired get fired doing it your way. 76 plays a game, etc...

For me, it's continuity in scheme and also holding on to some of these recruits.

Also, I think T-Rob's upside far outweighs the downside. He's been a coach under Muschamp for five years. Before that he had 3 years under Tubberville (2 at AU and 1 at Texas Tech). It's his time to step up into a coordinator role. It's also time AU takes a chance and hires an up-and-coming coordinator and rolls the dice. I can't remember the last time we hired someone like this. Even when Gus was hired as an OC, he had been an OC and had a few proven years of experience.

What DC would want to come here knowing gus has 1 year left?

Seriously. Sure, if Gus has a 6 or 7 (maybe even 8) win season he'll be on hot seat, but why is everyone so sure he's going to get fired.

This year was the perfect storm of bullshite. Lawson goes down and JJ goes mental. White didn't produce fast enough and add his injury. We were in every game except LSU - 4 losses were all by one possession and Bama would have been if not for the final TD in what amounts to garbage time.

Should have won Arkansas, but our receivers couldn't catch to save their lives. Was in the Bama game when we very well could have gotten shut out and embarrassed at home. Could have beaten UGA. Should have beaten Ole Miss and Ms State.

This year's team NEVER gave up. Should have a good QB battle in the spring with White and Franklin and maybe even Queen. If Jovon stays and we pull in a couple of receivers who compete for early playing time, then we'll have all the offesive pieces of the puzzle.

Now, if Johnson starts at QB next season and/or Lashlee remains in his current role, all bets are off.

If JJ is the starter in 2016, then Clemson wins 49-6.

This mainly. Think about it. Will Muschamp (arguably the #1 DC in the country) could barely do much with the D this year. Now you are asking Gus to bring in yet another new guy (with a new system) and expect improvement? I don't see it happening.

Moreover, if T-Rob follows WIll to USCe, then say goodbye to most of our decent defensive recruits. Is a "big name" hire worth that?

That's really not true. AU gave up fewest TDs in conference play since 2008. That's without Lawson majority of season

There is no doubt promoting TRob would be a bigger risk than going after a more entrenched DC but I think where AU is it's the best decision moving forward.

Robinson is one of the top recruiters in the nation. He has also proven to be one of the best DB coaches over the past 5 seasons. I mean look at the difference in our secondary by the end of the season. No WRs were running wide open, our guys were getting their heads around & making plays on the ball. We weren't whiffing on tackles in the open field. Not just Carlton Davis (who is turning into a stud) but the development of Stephen Roberts & Nick Ruffin are examples of the impact he has had. If Dinson & Irvin had stayed healthy I think you would have seen them make great strides as well.

He has also become Muschamp's right hand man over the past few seasons & so by promoting him we get to actually run a scheme that has worked for us back to back seasons. Also we can keep this class pretty much in tact as well. DJ Durkin & Muschamp are 2 of the best defensive minds in the business & both want TRob as DC so it appears he is a guy that is well respected.

I think if Auburn wants any hope of having a guy here multiple seasons & not having to implement a completely different scheme, then TRob is the guy you have to go with. He could turn out to suck as an actual DC but I think it's worth the risk. Gus's job is going to depend more on can he find a QB than defense as under Gus we will always lean heavily on offense. So why not take a chance on what could be the next big name DC?

Continuity for sure. But if we don't offer him the job he's going to be a DC somewhere else next year.

Best defense I've seen since Tubby's last season. And getting better. We need T-Rob to continue that.

JJ will be the starter next season, at another school.

Is he still transferring? That rumor died down pretty quickly without any confirmation.

Having T Rob at DC is a risk because honestly none of us know how it'll turn out, but if it's a risk we're willing to take then there's no problem doing it.

A year from now, we could just as easily be calling for his head saying that he isn't ready to be a DC and we promoted him prematurely. Gus shouldn't blindly promote him to DC if he stays...there should be an solid vetting process.

I disagree w/ this in the short run but agree in the long run. A new DC means a new system yet again which increases the likelihood of set backs next year.

My hope, though improbable it may be, is we get Charles Kelly & can keep TRob making them Co DCs.

I believe he is going to stay for the spring to get his degree & try to win the starting spot but if he doesn't win it then transfer somewhere in the summer. I highly doubt if White or Franklin is named starter he will stay to sit on the bench another year & I don't blame him

It has not died down & these things rarely get confirmed before the bowl game.
