I yelled "War Eagle"!
Dude clearly had no idea what I was talking about and thought I was crazy!
tbh I'm devastated

I don’t think he’s a real fan

it was that exact style of hat, too

Hope it wasn’t the dickhead who set our trees on fire. Wasn’t he a German?

This feels like a not so subtle "I'm in Europe" brag thread.

I lived in Frankfurt for two years a few years ago and wore AU and Utah gear while running along the Main River pretty frequently. Germans and Italians would regail my Utah stuff but never recognized AU stuff. I never figured it out but I thought it might be the mountains? Or maybe the Winter Olympics in 2002? I never figured it out but I've spent waaaay too much time thinking about it.
"War Eagle!"
"War Eagle!"

From a year in Munich:
- first day there, a dude from Ft Benning saw my backpack and said something
- one dorm mate recognized the AU stuff bc he spent a year abroad at Clemson
- another recognized it bc she watches cfb, which blew my mind
- I got a War Eagle from a dude during Oktoberfest
Been in Heidelberg for three months and nothing so far

Thank you for validating my lost time in thought. Haha.
- I"ve thought about most of these at one point or another. I'm not a war buff but Frankfurt had one big battle, and the Main was an artery. There was a US base there (Atterberry Kasern) but I never saw much of any military presence. It closed in '03 I think, and I was there a decade after. Its a banking city, so I met alot of Swedes/Swiss and many Italians which I can't figure out. Italians are cash and carry
- Second point I was in a higher income area (I lived there in my late 30's and early 40's).
- I convinced a few friends to watch amature CFB with me but they just didn't get it. "Why are we watching these amatures?" would be a repeated response. Obviously because you know how college football works and its not a concept that many Euros get with a school affiliation.
- Oktoberfest salutations for any well-known school is not suprising to me.

yeah tbh with Munich/Bavaria being as big as it is for US military operations, and the Ft Benning connection, after day one I kinda figured it would be at least a semi-regular occurrence, but it never happened again
only time I've spent in Frankfurt was flying over here en route to Heidelberg last November. Will actually be going back on Friday to fly back to ATL/AU for a month. Swore after Munich that I'd never sit through another miserable European winter ever again, but holy cow, with the virus and the three-month lockdown, this one was so much worse

I was in USAREUR twice in the 70s and 90s. Lots of AU grads in the Army back then.

I saw an Auburn sticker on the back glass of a car in Cyprus parked at a home.
Prob a good idea I didn't go knock to say war eagle.
