But for everyone else, why would 6 out of 9 coaches bolt from a team that went 12-2 and was poised for a national championship run? And then FSU wins the BCS NCG but Pruitt bolts to go from defensive coordinator to defensive coordinator?
I was listening to the radio on the drive home yesterday afternoon (680 The Fan/Chuck & Chernoff) and they were discussing this exact question. Chuck Oliver said that Jimbo is a tough guy to work for, as well as FSU does not pay their assistant coaches very much.

Granted, Pruitt was a first year DC, but his annual salary was just over $500k. UGA gave him, I think they said, roughly a 70% raise.

Why do you hate yourself so much?? Those two =

FSU while not bankrupt, does not have the $ to throw around that UGA does. Jimbo had it put in his new deal that he could give his assistants as a whole a raise. For them to match would have taken 90% (or something close to this) of that just for him.

But Grantham just left, you'd think if Pruitt was just offered the job the day Grantham left that FSU would still counter and that'd take a little longer than it did.

Dude was in a hurry to get out of there. That's what is fascinating to me.

The UGA part of it is inconsequential, it's UGA, they're not going anywhere. Although once they hire Bobby Petrino next year I'll reconsider what I'm saying.

without a top 10 pick at nose guard (jernigan), we probably hand 40+ and 500 yards on that defense

With Jernigan we would have had 40+ if we had just hit the easiest throws in the world and made a 33 yard FG.

I think most of the joy from the UGA side, which is totally justifiable, is just the fact it is somebody other than Grantham and that they were able to get a hot name quickly.
