Let's get this out there. Just because we hired Boom doesn't mean we are going to field a top 5 D this year. So let's all check our negabarner. We are going to have some bumps, more than likely early in the season. Let's just enjoy that football is here, and not spam the game thread.
You are of course right but this is a fap thread get your logic & reasonable expectations out of here

Just read PM's "FYEO" article. Not sure I can get away with posting any info without getting the banhammer, but some of the "insider" quotes have me even more fired up about getting started.

From my un-named insider sources:
-- “You hear all the talk about quarterbacks and coaches and wide receivers, but the big matchup in this game is on the line of scrimmage. Their defensive line is really good. The best in the country? No, but really good. Our offensive line is going to be really good, too, but there are new guys and guys playing new positons. Alex Kozan and Devonte Danzey are probably going to split snaps (at left guard). Nobody really knows for sure how that will work. So the line of scrimmage is going to be where the action is.”
-- “On the other side, our defensive line should have a real advantage against their offensive line.”
-- “Will (Muschamp) believes the defense has a chance to be really, really good. There are depth questions a couple of places and some freshmen are going to have to be able to help at times in the secondary, though probably not as often as some people think. Monte Adams looks ready to break out. What more can you say about Carl (Lawson)? I think everybody, including him, will be shocked if he doesn’t have a big season.”
-- “The coaches aren’t going to say it until it shows in a game, but Roc Thomas has been clearly the best running back on the field from the very first day of camp.”
-- “Shon Coleman has had a monstrous camp. Forget about his problems last season. He is unbelievably strong and he is really, really focused.”
-- “It’s amazing how Jeremy (Johnson) has won the respect and trust of his teammates. That says as much about him as a person as it does as a player. He’s had a good camp. He needs to be more consistently accurate. It’s not like he’s been wild, but he has missed some throws he should be able to make.”
-- “Duke Williams looks like a man on a mission. And watch out for Jason Smith. He’s electrifying.”
-- “Don’t be deceived by talk. Bobby Petrino being on the other sideline adds something to this game for Coach (Gus) Malzahn. And everybody knows what his game means to Petrino. He would have given his left (arm) to be the coach at Auburn.”
-- “Don’t be surprised if Tre’ Williams is the starter at one of the insider backer positions.
-- “There is concern about Tray Matthews’ hamstring issues. He’s full go now, but will he be able to stay on the field? That’s a big deal, because he’s an impact guy.”
-- “Rudy Ford might be the best defensive player we have.”
***
From a coach at another school who is familiar with Auburn and Louisville players: “Louisville has some good players, but they don’t have players like Auburn has. That could still win, but it would be a surprise to me.”
***
The biggest surprise of Auburn’s preseason camp might be freshman tight end Jalen Harris. There was little concern about his athleticism but some concern about whether he would be ready for the physical challenge of playing in the SEC. He has been much more physical than expected and has taken advantage of a somewhat depleted situation at tight end.
