its not the end all be all but its an unnecessary hurdle which is something a program like auburn doesn't need

We will get nowhere near the deal from Nike. UnderArmour gives us a top 5-8 deal (when last resigned) because before ND signed we were the flagship program. We still are a major player for UA and just another fish for Nike or Adidas

Also, it is a market share game. Nike already has Alabama in the state and Georgia in our next big metro alumni fan area. Nike isn't going to give us anything worth a shite because they are paying for a smal marginal increase I. Exposure and regional sales

Adidas would be the ones that would come within an ocean of UA

BRUCE PEARL or none at all

I'm sure this is somewhat joking, but Tyndall would be a great hire as well. Crazy guy like Pearl, and would be able to recruit.

So why fire Barbee? Under Armour will continue to drag the basketball program behind. ...unless Lebron James or Kevin Durant signs an endorsement deal with Under Armour, we're fricked.

So in some Bizarro Universe where Bruce Pearl becomes Auburn head coach, working under the same conditions as Barbee, you are GUARANTEEING failure because of a category of shoe?

Just trying to nail down what you are saying here.

He's saying because we are an under armour school we will never be competitive in bball.

Why do people seriously believe this bullshite? Half the teams that get into the fricking tourney don't deal with these supposed probs or aau shite. Give me a fricking break seriously. Because an UA on the jersey instead of a check is the difference in how our guys shoot the basketball.

Think of it like this:

Gus and Co. are unable to recruit or are severely behind recruiting any football recruits who went to Rivals camps. It would seriously deplete the options to recruit from. This is roughly the same as Barbee and Co. from being able to recruit the best talent that is sucked into the AAU circuit by Nike and Adidas.

It's not impossible to win with out it, but it damn sure makes it easier to win.

Pastner is definitely possible. Especially considering we can throw more money at him. He was hailed as the savior of Memphis basketball after Calipari left, so he may want to stay there because of the low bar set for him.

I think Auburn needs to shoot a little higher though. AlthougH Pearls show clause has its inherent disadvantages, he would be my first choice. My second choice would be Howland. If not able to get either of them, probably Tubby Smith and then Pastner after that.

I think we could pull him from Memphis. But lets be real, we aren't a final destination job so any coach we have is liable to just up and leave if successful. i don't see the Arizona job opening up any time soon anyway

Partner is the real deal. He was given a 1.7mil/yr extension long term. We would have to essentially pay 3mil/yr maybe more to buy out and offer a raise. Great coach and I wish a possibility but if he is leaving he has better jobs to pursue than likely career suicide

Ben Howland and Bruce Pearl are the two coaches with success we can land. Both are looking for work

Pastner is definitely NOT the real deal... he's a recruiter and average to below average basketball coach. when he faces a team with equal talent, his teams generaly fold. He's getting by on elite talent and a now watered down big east/aac/whatever.

they got their teeth kicked in last night in their own building by UCONN... memphis has 2nd round exit written all over them.

regardless, pastner isn't touching this job

Pastner is awful. Its easy to recruit to memphis, and his teams cant play defense. But nobhe would not consider auburn

I've been blowing up JJ's email.. Here's my most recent. I will continue to plant this seed.

Great move cutting ties with Barbee!

I'm sure you're getting flooded with ideas on where to start the search, and undoubtedly Bruce Pearl is probably the biggest suggestion, but I wanted to add my opinion for what it's worth.

Michael White would be a great fit in my opinion. He has SEC ties, could probably be had at a bargain relative to a Pearl type, and his style of play could keep AU competitive in the short term while he builds the program. He's young and motivated, and could be a long term option if his recent success is any indicator of what the future will hold. I'd take a long, hard look at White.

Thanks again on your recent moves across the board. The AU family is definitely taking notice at your desire to be competitive in all areas of athletics!

War Eagle..

But seriously, how about Norman Dale.

Now I know he is old. By now, he is probably in his 80s but he is a harsh disciplinarian and a hell of a recruiter.

I have zero hope he is, but I figure if I send it enough he'll open at least one of them.

I personally think we need a young, energetic coach. All it takes is one to build a legacy at AU to concrete it as a household name. We're better off with an up-and-comer that's more likely to stick with AU. I mean it really can't get any worse.

How can you pass up on a guy like Norman Dale?
