Van Gorder still sucks. They gave up that many points to a terrible LSU team

Roof on the other hand is the real deal. Despite a clear lack of talent, his second half adjustments and overall coaching was superb

Seeing as how we have majority of Chiz's playrs I don't find that surprising at all

Dumb. We recruited against every other team for our players. Its more than just the players. We have had Roof, Johnson and Stache for defensive coords. All failed. In that time frame, we have had some serious defensive talent We just are not developing it and it could even have a lot to do with our offensive scheme.

The landscape for college football has changed. Not many teams play defense. the new offenses have changed that

Had roof for three seasons. Roof has only been at GT for two. BVG at ND for 1. I would have to think we are going to try to keep muschamp at least 2-3. Coordinators come and go dude. Pretty common in CFB.

And each of Auburn's coordinators have had a different scheme. There's been no continuity on defense since Roof left in 2011 and we're entering 2015 with ANOTHER coordinator.

My point is that it's not just one factor that has contributed to Auburn's defensive struggles but if we continue to experience staff turnover and scheme changes at our current rate it will be years before any improvement is seen.

And yet Van Gorder's first year at Notre Dame was much better than his one year at Auburn.

Also, look at what Van Gorder and Roof are doing at thier respective schools. They've had multiple years to build their systems. We have to quit being so trigger happy. Our players are confused as much as anything due to the constant changes

Obviously I don't know the inner workings of the program, but I feel Boom being available might have had a lot to do with CEJ being let go.

As pissed as everyone was about the D, an argument could have been made to give the guy another year, jmo.

I was also of this position. Maybe he still has a job if Muschamp is on the staff and you see an exodus of coordinators. I would have been fine with this.

At some point Malzahn has to learn how to run his offense without putting unrealistic expectations on the defense . Playing situational football and flipping field position can win a game. Gus spent the season trying to outscore opponents and it blew up in his face right until the very end.

At some point, we need some stability in our coaching staff. It has been a fricking mess since Tubbs crew left

I think Ellis still has a job if Muschamp isn't a free agent or wasn't interested. The Muschamp to Auburn thing was likely being worked out weeks before he actually lost the Florida job.

If Muschamp said no or stayed on at FL, not sure we fire Ellis.

I don't think Ellis was fired necessarily for incompetence, Gus just felt a better option was available and I won't fault that.

I don't know if it were "we want to hire you" talks but feelers about Muschamp and his desire to go to AU were before the IB
