Told by two guys from 2004 team that the 2003 team could spank the 04 teams arse all up and down the field wasn't even close in terms of talent

That's correct.. 03 team had way more talent than any team I have ever seen at Auburn, a number of nfl guys off of that team. I would say this year or 03 is most disappointing. 06 not at all I felt like we achieved a lot that year went 11-2 with a very mediocre offense and qb..

I think some of you are mis understanding the context of the message. I am not saying this is the worst or shittiest year we have ever had. I am saying disappointing due to the expectations.. In 2008 and 2012 we had no expectations, in 03 yes we did i'll give you that. If you like at all the talk around the team this year and everyone feeling like we were a serious threat if not favorite to win the national title, and to lose 3 of your last 4 with everything right in front of you. I don't care what any of you say that is as bad as it get's. Now in 06 we lost to a terrible Georgia team with an outside shot to get in the title game that could be mentioned but to me doesn't compare to this year, not near the expectations.

I understand what you are saying but as for those two years, I expected better of them. In 2008, I didn't expect to be embarrassed by Vandy, WVU and not to mention the arse kicking by Bama. In 2012, I didn't expect that I would watch an Auburn team just quit and go 0-8 in the SEC. So while I didn't expect them to win the MNC, I did expect them to be at least decent. For me, it was disappointing.

Yeah, going into the season so highly ranked, opening up with the marquee game of the year against USC and AU gets bitch slapped....then the loss to Tech

Indeed this. We started top ten that season and promptly got to a 0-2 record, not only losing to both USC & Ga Tech, but also not even scoring a single TD in either game. That's right, Auburn was a top ten preseason team that going into week 3 of the season had not even scored a single touchdown. In fact, going into week three we'd scored a whopping 3 damn points! On top of that late on that season we got our asses handed to us by both LSU & Georgia and also lost at home to Ole Miss.

Remember the idea to honor Jim Fyffe? One side of the stadium would say Touchdown, the other side Auburn when we scored against USC?

Guys this has to be the most disappointing season in Auburn history with the expectation's put on this team. Add on to the fact that we controlled our own destiny with 4 games to go and went 1-3.. It came down to inconsistent oline play and a defense that lost their identity and became dreadful after the LSU game. Thought we would be in playoff with a chance to avenge last year's gut wrenching defeat in title game. Not sure where we go from here guys. I feel like we will be solid next year but it will take sometime to get over the disappointing close to this season.

No shite? You'll give us a top 3 preseason ranking only to finished unranked?

Auburn was #5 in the country in week 11 of the season with only a Mike Shula coached Alabama team standing in a the way when they got taken to the woodshed by UGA. Win that game & Auburn goes to the SECCG for a chance to make the BCSNCG for the first time ever. How is that not disappointing?

This is the worst post on the Auburn board since the a-hole wanted to start a gang. Other than the A&M loss, what else disappointed you? We played the toughest schedule I can ever remember and most of those games were away. Most Auburn people i talked to saw at least 2-3 losses for this year's team given the schedule.

2003 was the worst, but 2001 was close.

6-1 after defeating #1 Florida and then go 1-4 including humiliating IB blowout.

After all the hype about Muschamp, this will be the most disappointing season if we don't get him.

We were top 10 in 2008 with an "offensive genius" (so we thought) in his first year as coordinator.

Who did we lose in 2003 besides Dansby and Dontarrius Thomas that were soo amazing. Brandon Jacobs?

ETA: Just looked it up others were Spencer Johnson, Brandon Johnson, and DeMarco McNeil. A few other decent players but those were the main guys.

Pretty normal attrition I would say.

Wonder what would have happened if we had hired Borges a year earlier.

Look at it this way, if you took yourself back to 2012 and someone told you that Auburn would be 8-4 in 2014 with no mention of 2013, would you be happy or at least OK with that?

True, 2013 did result in high expectations, and everyone is certainly disappointed, but keep in mind, these are 18 to 23 year old children...doesn't Uncle Lou (Holtz) say that you play with a different team every week in college? Not sure Auburn was ever really top 5 good this year. I think LSU was the best game with the Iron Bowl a close second and poor performances against USC, TAM, and UGA.

I do worry about the expectations being set in college ball anymore. Thanks to Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Chiz, and Gus, there's an increasing expectation that a big-time program should be competing for conference/national championships within 2 to 3 years of a coaching change. Nebraska firing a guy who had never won less than 9 games in a season! Crazy!

I vividly remember thinking, after the Ga Tech game, that Auburn might have been somehow cursed after Fyffe died and would never again score a TD

2003 was practically the same team plus a little more. Just 2004 gelled better with offensive coaching.
