Just got back. below is the program for the ceremoney, which was extremely well done and tasteful.

Stadium was pretty full. Several thousand people. The team brought a bus full. Not sure how many players. I saw Lashlee and DCraig and Ziemba and Cole Cubelic and the usual paparazzi like Philip Marshall, etc.

I was so impressed with Mike Lutzenkirchen, Philips dad. I cant believe he got through a speech. It is very easy to see where Philip got his personal charisma. What a great family.

What really struck me though, and brought tears...was they did a candlelight thing and the end. Darkened stadium. There was the most beautiful orange and blue sunset with a crescent moon rising. I have seen that at JHS. It was amazing. The image below is from before the ceremony. Didnt seem correct to take any during the deal.

i was on the right side. I went alone, but didn't feel alone. Lot's of love in that stadium tonight.

ETA: My thoughts that i posted in the rant thread:

Just got back from Lassiter. I am very glad I went. Seeing his sisters really upset as they were walking to their seats was really rough, but seeing how strong that whole family is throughout the service was remarkable. His dad did something that I couldn't do in giving a great speach about the loved one he just lost.

Chett was only difficult during the first part, but he was having problems with hearing himself over the loudspeakers while he was talking. He was much better later and had the most insiprational message through the whole thing.

Gus was in Europe on vacation when he got word that Lutz had passed. He and his wife flew overnight last night and got in ATL this morning to be at the event.

There were a lot of Lutz's former teammates there as well.

It certainly helps to have been able to be there for me personally. Lutz was a hometown hero as well as a college legend and it showed. He was one of those that you would have loved to have as a friend and also a guy that makes you look at yourself and want to be a better person. This helped me process the grief of losing a great person and helping show his famiy how many people will miss him.

I went but wife stayed home with our little guys hoping to watch the streaming video. Apparently that got hammered as it was the local HS server. Hopefully it will go on youtube. There were a shite TON of camera crews.

Yeah, the archive is still viewable on the same website the stream was on. I imagine someone will transfer it to youtube before too long.

Very sad. Not so much that a former AU football player was killed, but a very young life who had a great soul. I hope peace finds his family, especially his mom and dad. This is the hardest experiance a human can experiance; the death of a child, IMO.

Here's a picture of the sunset I was talking about. Rod Bramblett took this picture (or at least posted it in twitter.) It was honestly more spectacular than this from my vantage point anyway.

First thing I said to my wife upon leaving was that I pray I die before either of my children.

I wish that for everyone. I also said to those around me (with general agreement) was hug your children right now. Mine are all Lutz's age or slightly older. We have two little grandkids who live with us.

You prepare yourself to one day say goodbye to your parents, but no one is ever prepared to lose a child.
