Just read the report. He was in the backseat of a car that got pulled over for speeding but the weed was also found in the back seat. He's charged with 2nd degree possession.

2nd degree possession in bama is a Class A misdemeanor fwiw.

(If it's just a small weed arrest)

Yeah, I was going to say this is nothing, legally. Fines and court cost at the most. It rest in Coach Malzhans judgement as to his future with the team.

Might as well ride down the road waving the bag at all the cops you pass.

Kick him off the team and send a message.

It wont send a message. Wont matter. I don't care if they kick him off or not but it just does not work like that

Kicking off a 5th year senior (with no priors iirc) for misdemeanor weed charge might send a message... just not the one you're thinking.

We don't need to take the high road approach when the rest of the SEC doesn't. It would only hurt us talent wise if he did. Beside we have taken kids that have been in trouble before and kicking him off for getting in trouble now would send a mixed message.

No link, but I'm pretty sure I remember him being in the 'doghouse' for weed his freshman year under Chizik (which would make sense with him being redshirted on a team with a secondary that included Demond Washington and Neiko Thorpe in the starting lineup)

With that being said, I'm not going to act like the possibility of losing a senior CB is not disappointing, but I wholeheartedly believe/believed, even before the arrest, that a HEALTHY Holsey is the best option at CB we have

Suspended him indefinitely...make him earn his way back to he starting role. Make him become best friends with Coach Russell. Then once he's earned it bring him back whenever that may be

Did kicking off the freshman rushing record holder and National Championship MVP send a message?

Doesn't appear so.

People are not afraid of consequences anymore. They just do what ever the frick they want and hope they don't get caught

If they let Kalvaraz Bessent on the team and he is new meat, then a guy with a proven track record and a 5th year senior shouldnt pay a bigger price.

What message i would send directly to Mincy is you are not going to be a team captain. he wanted that.

It's stupid to kick him off for a first time offense like this on the team. Most kids want to smoke and drink in college. Pretty damn normal. He just needs to be on a short leash. 2nd time it happens it's on him.

I agree, I think he's by far our best corner right now, no need to kick him off the team. Just do the old fashioned running has arse off in the summer after everyone else is done working out.

Driving while black or 92 mph is asking to get pulled over. Why the frick would you travel with shite in your car?

Either way, no point in kicking him off. You can set an example by making his life hell/getting him in prime shape with Russell

That's disappointing. Kids are dumb and do dumb stuff. I imagine Mincy will be in outstanding shape by the time he sees the field this year.

Public Service Plea:

PLEASE STOP TYPING "that being said." It's all over this thread and it makes me punch a baby every time I read it.

Mincy has been suspended before.

https://www.ledger-enquirer.com/2010/09/05/1256658_auburn-football-notes-craig-stevens.html

Now if that prior suspension was for a positive drug test, this would be his second violation of team rules in that regard. And, if so, according to our drug policy, he would be suspended for 50% of the season.
