Malzahn want's a high-profile recruiter to join his staff

The hire could be made as soon as today. Auburn already has names in mind

The hire will likely be a TE coach unless folks start turning us down.

Don't be surprised if the hire comes from a P5 school with some big success in recent history

Despite rumors of Tim Horton looking around it appears he will be back

Greg Brown was Kevin Steele's hire

Some close to the team believe Monty Atkinson will push for a starting job at LB

Some believe Marquis McClain will be a future star at wr

Antwan Jackson is one to watch. Garner thought he was ready last year but couldn't get him enough reps to warrant burning his redshirt

Byron Cowart has fully embraced the move inside. He's up to 285lbs and "could be a monster in there" per source

Prince Sammons "his ceiling is exceptionally high"

Nick Coe - Don't be surprised if he pushes for a starting job.

On Malzhan's job security..

“He can’t keep losing five games a year. He really needs to beat Georgia. The Georgia games the last two years probably hurt him – and the rest of us – more than any games since he’s been here.”

-- “I think he’s fine as long as it looks like the program in on an upward trajectory. What does that look like? You really can’t say until you see it.”

-- “I think he needs to be very competitive against everybody and beat the teams he’s supposed to beat. It’s hard to say who those teams are at this point. Nobody wants a coaching change, and I don’t think there’ll be one unless the wheels just come off.”

Our problems (CGM's meddling with Offense/QB) seem so close to being resolved, then at other times they seem so far. That's the most frustrating thing - if both can get consistent, I want Gus around for a while.

He lacks that motor to be a real threat.

Are these "insider notes" cringe worthy to anyone else? I mean level 9-10 cringe worthy.

I don't understand Gus's malfunction when it comes to the Georgia game. In 2013 we were destroying them and had to eventually win on a miracle play. 2014 was a debacle, should've won '15 and '16. Just absolutely terrible coaching in those games.

Richt always played lights out against Auburn and those kids always play hard for that game. When you expect to win, things can go your way and when you don't have a leader playing in that game that was playing the last time you won against someone, it is hard to overcome it.

The last two years were the worst two games that we lost each year.

As for the rest, I knew Greg Brown was a Kevin Steele hire. Malzahn had no ties to him and I am sure that he and Steele have crossed paths before.

This one is interesting. I would think it would be tough to bring in a heavy hitter recruiter to coach tight ends and special teams.

I thought this was fact? I thought he wanted to move upward if he goes though.

I assume he would move inside and I think he will be a three tech.

Does anyone ever see Tate's insider notes? I always thought he was the best of the beat reporters.

I assume he is still around?

He's still around. He just stated that he expects Fountain's replacement to be hired "soon" and that he thinks he knows who its going to be. If he's thinking of the right person, he says its a guy with Auburn connections and some recruiting chops (as predicted). Not much "info" there, but he's definitely been vocal about more staff changes happening post Lashlee leaving, so he's got some idea what is going on.
