That's worked so well thus far.

I agree with most of the points you make. I'll preface this by saying I am an EJ supporter and have been from the beginning (take me out back and stone me if you want). He is a good coach, not great, and has the track record to prove it. The issue is, we need an attitude change on defense. Ellis isn't the kind of coach who brings a lot of emotion and passion and that is manifesting into the players. It works well when he has leaders and fundamentally sound players on the field. We do not. To change that, one of two things need to happen:
1.) Wait on him to recruit and develop his own players OR
2.) Bring in new coaches with a different attitude

At this point, I'm not willing to wait on the first option anymore. If Gus wants to keep EJ, that's fine and I will support that decision, but I want at least some positive changes to fix the attitude of the defense in the form of new assistants. If he wants to bring in a new DC, that's fine too, but keep in mind that will mean yet another change in defensive philosophy. The 3rd in 4 years. Problems won't be fixed overnight, but improvement can be made. That's all I want as a fan.

The reality is that we don't have the players. We still have kids that were on the team two years ago who couldn't win a sec game

Tommy Tuberville, Gene Chizik (as a DC), Will Muschamp, David Gibbs, and Paul Rhoads seemed to always do a decent enough job with a bunch of mostly 3-star athletes.

Mentioning that... will Paul Rhoads be available soon? Maybe?

Respectfully disagree. There was no improvement in the defense.

When you are paid that much, results are expected.

Gus is still only just now completing his second year. It is perfectly logical for him to make changes based on what he sees best for our long term goals and development.
