Not about undervaluing anybody. CAP is a solid back, but neither he or Grant are gamebreakers that can make anybody miss in the open field. Roc is 195 pounds, can fly and has the ability to leave defenders grasping at air. He's the most complete back, and it's not even close.
Confused on how you think Roc is the most complete back? I liked what I saw in a few runs but nothing that was clearly better than what Grant and CAP already bring to the table. Those guys have proven they can handle the load and are both top level SEC backs.
I think the main problem is CAP doesn't have a lot of sexy runs. Same thing was true with Mason which is why it took forever for people to jump on his bandwagon. Remember last season when everyone wanted Grant and CAP to get the ball over Mason? Happens every season where the allure of what a guy can be trumps the effectiveness of a guy now. CAP is the perfect SEC back. Big physical kid that knows how to move inside the tackles and can handle 30-40 carries without wearing down.
Roc will be the guy one day and I expect big things but 2014 is CAP's year

quote:Totally disagree. CAP is easily better than Mario Fanin or Mike Blakely. We've been fortunate to have some serious studs at the position in recent years.
I'd rank him as the least talented RB we've had start since Brad Lester.
quote:Mason and Tate, sure. Dyer can suck it. All the ability in the world doesn't mean a damn thing if you're too much of a douchebag to put the team's interest ahead of your own.
I'd take Mason, Dyer, and Tate over him in a heartbeat.

Fanin was a starter at HBack for the majority of his career. Never once led the team in carries. And highest carries in a year occuried his FR year with 84. Blakely never started and didn't even play that much anyways. On Dyer, i said talent. Looks like you agreed with me. I said nothing about his off the field personality.

Thomas will be gone after the 2016 season, and I would hate to really only get two full years out of him because of seniority.
Do you really think others are getting more carries because of seniority? Thomas has run for ~50 yards against SJSU and had a fumble. I think he'll be good, but no way is he better than CAP and Grant at this point.

Roc will be All-SEC before he leaves Auburn.
Maybe All-American.
Right now CAP is the best back.

This is a ridiculous thread. What have we seen of Thomas so far that sells him as being our best back? Does the OP not trust Gus? CAP can certainly carry the load, in fact, to me he already looks more comfortable with the O-line and the offensive tendencies.

You know what I like to do when we have the most rushing yards in the SEC? Criticize the coaching decisions on running back depth charts!!!

The spinning shite he tries every time he touches the ball may work in HS, but it is a gimmick at best in real football.
See Eddie Lacy. Still doing it in the NFL.
But yeah I'd keep CAP in. Roc hasn't learned everything about the position yet. I think they'll slowly bring him along.

This. As big of fans and as closely as we follow the team, Gus is the one around them all the time at practice and meetings. Let's not question his decisions until we see a real reason to think he's doing something wrong.
