quote:

• No players of the game from Auburn's coaching staff. Harsin said they don't do that after losses.

• Says the most important thing Auburn can do is apply the mistakes from Saturday to this week in practice and try to make fixes as soon as possible. Said the Georgia State game provides a great opportunity to do that.

• Harsin said Georgia State is better than its 1-2 record indicates and will provide a challenge for the Tigers in a handful of areas this weekend.

• Harsin said Georgia State will be an opportunity for Auburn to "get back" working on it what it does and doesn't do well. Says "discipline from everybody in this program" needs to improve.

• On run-pass balance moving forward: "We'd like to run it as much as possible."

• Harsin said there was "a little bit of confusion" in the red zone against Penn State, particularly in the run game.

• On Auburn's pass defense: "It's a combination of our opponents doing a good job executing their pass game. ... and we've got to come up and challenge them. ... That's an area we know we can improve on."

• Is there a plan to reassess Auburn's wide-receiver rotation? "Guys are competing for opportunities to play. You're always assessing that."

• Said Auburn has opportunities "scheme-wise" to create explosive plays in the vertical passing game. "We execute it in practice; we have to do it in a game."

• On Auburn's zone defense: "You want to protect yourself from big-play opportunities at the time, but you do still want to play aggressive. ... We haven't executed like we could and we should."

• Harsin: "Our opponents are doing a good job of putting us at a disadvantage on the defensive side."

• On linebacker Owen Pappoe, who exited the game with a leg injury: "Owen's doing good. ... He's ready to get back and get after it." Sounds like Pappoe will be available against Georgia State, just a matter of how many snaps he'll get.

• Harsin said he was impressed with how the offense handled the noise and the environment at Penn State, said Bo Nix controlled the offense well. But, "the guys around him need to be consistent."

• On the fourth-and-goal call late in the fourth quarter: "That's a tough question of whether it was the right play call. I mean, it didn't work."

• Harsin reiterates that he and Mike Bobo liked the call ahead of time and liked the execution of it in practice. Also notes that Auburn will be in that position again and will have to run a play that converts next time.

• Harsin commends receiver Kobe Hudson for responding with a couple big plays after his fumble led to a Penn State touchdown in the third quarter.

• Harsin is asked about Auburn struggling to get defensive calls in at times Saturday. Is Derek Mason considering moving from the box to the field? Harsin: "No. That has nothing to do with him being in the box."

• Auburn can take "a lot of positives" out of a loss like Saturday's: "You use that as motivation. We're not good enough in these areas. ... That's a driving factor. There's no doubt about it."

• Harsin: "I hope for everyone in this program, (the loss) is a reminder that it takes what it takes."

• Harsin: "Georgia State is a damn good football team. They will come in here and give us their very best."

I'm reading that the Auburn passing game was good in practice against our passing D. Trouble is that our pass D (specifically in zone) is horrible. Hopefully, they don't fall into the same trap again.

Refreshing. I hope our fan base is patient enough to let Harsin get things right.

This is refreshing to hear.

Everything he said is so refreshing. Clean up JUST a few things and we win that game. We will get better.

I need to hear the actual press conference, but man this reads like the AU at UT postgame speech Pat Dye laid down after losing to UT in Knoxville. "They'll be plenty of days that you'll lay your guts on the line and come up short. Ain't a damn thing you can do about it but lay 'em on the line agin'. And agin'. And agin'. If you'll keep playin' like that, we'll have a foundation that Auburn will have for a long, long time."

Maybe my high plains desert bias is showing. He and Whittingham liked each other. I love Whittingham. I loved Harsin at Boise. He was known periphially as a hard-arse.

(edit) I had to use Google instead of DuckDuckDo to find this: Pat Dye, UT loss, 1981

You'd be hard pressed to find one, non-sub 80 IQ person who thought that was the right call.

It's NOT a tough question. He's clearly protecting Bobo, but I suspect, he got an arse chewing and will be on a short leash going forward. If not, Harsin may not be the guy we need.

So glad you let us know. What would you have called?

Once people like you spend more than ten years on the internet, you'll realize your response is a facsimile of tens of millions of other posts. Every poster here - whether I agree with them or not - didn't post this thought because this turd of a though happened probably 15 years ago.

I'd like to think that this is a place where we don't engage in the silliness of engaging in questioning individual play calls. Many play calls look shitty in hindsight, but Bobo and Harsin have some offensive bonafides statistically. I'd take their opinion and situation analysis over yours amigo.

Seriously? A fricking QB sneak had a better chance of converting than throwing a 50-50 fade ball from Nix to Calvin fricking Johnson from the 2!

We have two stud RBs, and a line that was doing a damn good job with run blocking. So, let's throw a pass to our stone hand receivers from a QB with a propensity to overthrow. Hell, pull a play from the '85 Bears and throw a 330# lineman in there to carry the rock. Your chances of converting could not be worse than what we actually tried.

Oh my! I bet you were defending the "whirlybird" a few year ago, too! Damn! Are you actually saying it's not ok to call out a dumbass call when we see it?

Thst's a great point.

I guess what I'm saying is that I feel confident with Harsin/Bobo there was film study, tendancies, coverages, all that jazz baked in to the goal line call. I didn't like it either but I'm looking at the failure of the play like you.

I didn't like the call but tge ball was thrown exactly where it needed to be. The receiver let himself get caught up with the CB and taken down while the ball was in the air.

Bad play call but not bad Bo.

Damn that seriously wasn't fair. And we went up 21-0 and still let them hang around. Freakin' Tubbs. That should have been an all time blowout for us.
