Gut feeling is that the cobwebs are mostly gone after a year+ and our next Heisman winner is on point. Our receivers are on point. Posijiro thinks we go into Clemson, play a complete game (come on Ian / Legatron) and up to our potential.

I may be WAY off, but my gut says we head to the Lake and just friggin' beat Clemson. Beat 'em. I really think Stidham shows up big time and everyone shows up with him. Pett back is key.

i'll take a 1 pt win....

but - really - i think we have a chance

we just need stidham to ball out, Defense to play as we know they can, and Pettway to run people over

It would be really, really awesome if we can finally exhibit any sort of competence on offense.

I want a fundamentally sound, well-executed game on all sides. Will that be enough? I don't know, but if we get that, I will be content regardless of the outcome. I just want to see consistently sharp play.

Now let's go crush those dabo-doos

OL play gonna have to be better and I keep waiting for our receivers to live up to their hype, where was Craig last Saturday?!?. They will have to if we are gonna win Saturday night.

First time in a decade I'm not worrying about our defense blowing up and allowing 40+ points.

I want to believe. I just think Gus can't help himself to do something stupid. I hope Saturday night I can say I was wrong.

I think the defense is ready.

I too have a cautiously optimistic feeling that we win this game -- completely different gut feeling than I had before the 2012 AU/Clemson game.

I think the team, especially the defense, is going to be fired up after last week's game and with the thought of last year in the back of their minds.

Our OL concerns me, but I think the coaches game plan for that.

I didn't watch the Clemson/Kent State game, but I doubt Kent State hit Clemson's QB that much. If our DL can get to the QB and knock him around, it's going to be a long night for the crack head tigers.

I agree. Let's hope Gus's arrogance doesn't get in Stidham's way. That and I am also worried about our O-line - they may be big, but as we saw last week, can be confused by different types of blitzes.

You know what I would like to see for once? How about our offense starts off with pass - pass - pass - pass - pass. Now THAT would really catch Clemson off guard.

From what little I saw he is very elusive. If the DL gets their hands on him they need to hang on. It seems like in the past we have done a decent job of getting to the QB but struggle to bring them down consistently.

What we saw in the GSU game is nothing like what I saw during the second scrimmage in August, especially the route running, quick passing game. That will help the O-line. We need to get JS into a comfort zone early.

I have a good feeling about this team.

Damn, just realized - this is the fourth time in 7 years playing Clemson early in the season, each time with QB questions.

2011: Barett Trotter, first road start, 3rd start overall
2012: Kiehl Frazier, first start
2016:
2017: Stidham's first road start at AU, 2nd overall

If you look at what Lindsey did in the first game of last season at ASU, you'll notice that the box score looks very close to what AU did this year with GSU. Then ASU balled out against TTU.

I'm not saying that the same will happen with AU and Clemson, but I'm not saying it won't either.

I know Clemson's D line is one of their strongest units (and top in the country) but how is their secondary?

From Barrett Sallee's SEC Week 2 picks

quote:

Auburn was purposefully vanilla in a win over Georgia Southern last week, but against Clemson, the SEC's Tigers will serve up the full hot fudge sundae. With bruising running back Kamryn Pettway back from suspension to complement Kam Martin and Kerryon Johnson (if available), the full version of the running game will be at coordinator Chip Lindsey's disposal. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham will unleash more of the passing game deep downfield and over the middle to Kyle Davis -- who also is back from suspension. Defensively, Auburn showed last week that it's deep, versatile and talented along the defensive line. That line will light up new starter Kelly Bryant early, and the Auburn running game will put it away late. Pick: Auburn Tigers (+5)

Did some looking at Clemson's secondary from last year and the production lost. They lost two players: Cordrea Tankersley and Jadar Johnson. Their DBs this year are Mullen, Edmund, Muse and Fields. References to DBs this year are their totals from last year.

Data from NCAA

Interceptions
Johnson 5
Tankersley 4
DBs this year 3
Clemson 20

Passes Defended
Johnson 12
Tankersley 15
DBs this year 10
Clemson 82

Pass Breakups
Johnson 7
Tankersley 11
DBs this year 8
Clemson 62

Tackles
Johnson 60
Tankersley 52
DBs this year 54
Clemson 1,016

Someone said in another thread that all the pressures on Clemson. I disagree. Clemson's program is where I'd like for ours to be. Stacked with solid recruits at every position, they plug and play into their system and keep on winning. 6 years of 10-plus wins is pretty impressive. Each guy that is new to a position looks very similar to the guy who just left. That's when a program is up on plane.

This will be a big Benchmark for Gus. If he can go into Clemson and steal one, that will say a lot about us moving forward. It will get recruits excited, and put us back into the national conversation again. Clemson is already there and they will stay there regardless off what happens on Saturday.

The pressure is on Auburn to become and remain relevant. Pressure on Stidham to get rid of those Happy Feet and holding the ball too long and just ball out and live up to his potential. The pressure is on Kevin Steele to redeem himself from being fired by Clemson. In my opinion, Auburn has a lot more riding on this game than Clemson.

I see what you're saying from a program standpoint, but have to disagree looking just at this game. Clemson is the reigning national champion and Auburn, who went 8-5 last year, is the underdog.

AU loses this game, and no one bats an eye unless we look inept like last year. We win this game, and suddenly, we're a national contender.

Good news is since this is OOC and early in the season, a loss doesn't necessarily eliminate us from the playoffs.

I hear you. I guess what I'm saying is that Gus is under more pressure than Dabo to perform. If we lose this and look bad, everybody's going to say "same old Gus". Where as they won't say the same thing about Dabo because he's been consistent.

I agree that we will be immediately vaulted into the national conversation if we win. That will be exciting. Hope it happens!
