I live in NE Ohio, after Thanksgiving outdoor activities cease until about April. It’s a good escape.

I find most folks hop on the "it's a waste of time" bandwagon regarding video games despite having their own "waste of time" pursuits. I enjoy them because it actively challenges my brain.
