Do you consider AU a well-coached football team?

Auburn was the least penalized team in the SEC this year.

Auburn also had the 2nd fewest turnovers of any team in the SEC.

I know it won't stop the bitching, but at least it's something to consider... This is one of the best Auburn teams I can remember in terms of limiting the mental mistakes that plague most teams from time to time -- solid in special teams, drastically cut down on missed tackles, limited turnovers and penalties.

We are not well coached at QB. The most important position on the field. Loved our defense this year.

Disciplined does not equal well coached.

If you can't develop quarterbacks or call rational plays, penalties don't really matter. Offensively, we've already made a good share of negative plays the last two years.

As much as we want to trash Gus, the guy has built a great program outside QB issues.

We have elevated play at nearly every position group and depth

Offense
RB Play RB Depth
Most promising WR group to arrive at Auburn in nearly a decade
Consistently Good OL play every year

Defense

Rebuilt Defensive Line Depth

LB don't look like dumpster fires and some depth

Cornerbacks that don't look like burnt toast + depth

Quality Safety play + depth Tray Matthews

Bro, we had a true freshman safety with two INTs on Saturday after Rudy got hurt...

No I do not. I consider a well coached team one that puts the players in a position to be successful and one that gets better throughout the year. We failed miserably on getting better during the year and actually fall apart in November.

Disagree somewhat. We clearly improved from September to October and were well on our way to a successful season until we lost our two most important players on offense to injury.

Where the coaching staff failed was not having adequate replacements for them.

Gus deserves all the blame for not having a somewhat adequate backup QB... But I don't see how you can blame him for the RB situation with how it's played out through 12 games. Pettway was literally our 4th string RB when KJ got dinged against state.

Outside of QB and WR, we're extremely well coached. There are aspects of Gus that lead to championships. Also aspects of Gus that lead to DIII quality bullshite that no Auburn team should ever have.

QB development is terrible but not the worst part of the program. Worst part is game planning against difficult opponents, something a good SEC coach has to do 50% of the year.

Gus didn't have to game plan much in 2013. We ran the read option and threw it deep a bit. In 2015 and 2016 when we actually needed to be innovative to get the upper hand? Utter disaster.

Our safety play at 2/3 spots is good and depth is solid IMO. There is no way I can put a check mark there though while Tray Matthews plays at this tire fire level

Our program is at its best level from team play, talent depth and program management in a long time. Gus deserves credit.

If Gus can fix this baby back BS and get a solid QB coach/playcaller we are set

I've been highly unimpressed by the fundamentals of the WRs this year too.

The tackling has been outstanding. LB and DB have done a great job of tackling in the open field.

CBs that don't look like burnt toast. Might want to uncheck that one. Well, I guess everyone but Carlton Davis looked pretty decent.

I would argue oline play hasn't been top notch.

In 2014 we struggled to pick up short yardage and red zone yards.

In 2105 we struggled in pass protection.

In 2016 we struggled in pass protection.

I wouldn't grade it below average but it has been average at best.

Guess it depends on what you mean by well coached football team? I think from a discipline standpoint this is one of the best AU teams I have seen. Very little stupidity after the whistle or dumb penalties in secondary.

But we also rotated 5 QBs to open the season, didn't get a first down against one of our top rivals & ran a FB pass on 4th down against the #1 team in the country. We still have room for improvement

and you obviously dont see that as a mistake? thats one of the mistakes I cant defend.

our entire passing game is not well coached, it isnt just the QB position. the plays are remedial. the play calling is retarded. none of that is good coaching. what we have is a gd ferrari and we have tossed the keys to a kid with his learner's permit.

How is it a mistake?... Jovon got kicked off the team right before fall camp and Roc left... It's a testament to Gus that he had essentially his 4th string RB coming out of spring ball rush for 1100 yards.
