Well Mervyl isn't coming, so we both lose on that end. If I lived in Montgomery I would have season tickets to ASU just because he is that good of a coach. I'm not sure that he won't head back to florida when one of the big jobs becomes available.

From what I have heard, so TIFWIW, the players have voted and want Thompson from the options available to them by the AD. That being said I still see this taking another month before anything becomes public.

Thompson

I looked at his bio. Didn't realize he was an assistant coach at AU from 2006-2008.

Are we excited about this hire?

He should've been hired awhile ago but hindsight is easy now.

He's highly respected in this conference and I believe he knows how to sell himself and he knows how to sell Auburn.

The hire we needed to make based on the resumes... We still seem to pick folks with an AU connection, but in this case he was the best for the Job.

He is credited with the talent on the 2010 team. Known as a recruiter. He probably is the best we could do with our current situation, TBH.

Will the current assistants stay on board for this season?

Depends if Thompson wants them around. I'd like to keep Greg Norton. Tom Holliday has already been dismissed so we'll have to hire a new pitching coach

Prior to SG being fired we pulled in an awesome recruiting class, right? What happened to that class? Have most of the guys stuck around to see who AU hired?

Nobody has transferred out yet but that doesn't mean it won't happen. Most guys will keep their plans quiet until the end of this semester and see how things play out.

We have talent so it'll be interesting

frick it. Lets go get Tim Hudson. He has nothing else to do now except spend his millions.

He could donate himself to Auburn and we could name a building after him. He could write it all off.

Thompson was a pitching coach so we should hire Hudson as pitching coach. The star power + actual coaching experience from Thompson would be legit

Those who can do, those who can't coach.... just because someone is a gifted athlete does NOT mean they can coach.

You're right, but it's been well documented how Hudson has served as a mentor to younger pitchers during his time in the league.

While mentoring isn't necessarily the same Hudson had a long career in the MLB and I'm sure could serve as an excellent resource for AU's team.

Hudson isn't getting hired and he wouldn't have interest anyways so this is all pointless.

The only two former players that I could see getting hired are Bootcheck and Gross.
