So he's 50% defensive coordinator or like vice DC?

FAP / Full Blown Meltdown / Meh
Where should I be on this scale? It's never Meh on this board so I guess i should've left that one out

So I'm guessing he sucks at recruiting.

McGriff played a big part in helping Ole Miss land the nation's No. 4 recruiting class in 2013. He was the lead recruiter on defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, the top prospect in the country. Nkemdiche was shocked when McGriff left for the Saints.
...
"McGriff was one of the best recruiters when he was at Miami (for four years)," JC Shurburtt, the national recruiting director at 247Sports, told the Clarion-Ledger in 2013. "He was one of their best guys and has resurfaced at Ole Miss. This is the first headlining year he's had in a while. That's a tribute to what they are doing at Ole Miss, and to him.

Nevermind, I see that McGriff was the lead hirer of Robert Nkemidiche while at Ole Miss. Finally we hired somebody that knew the value of a dollar bill.

Hopefully our current compensation and relocation plans are up to par

Looks like we pull him in as our S. Florida recruiter to replace T Rob.

Hard to coach up players that'd be on practice squads elsewhere.

Totally different thing coaching college kids vs. ego inflated millionaires.

Doesn't seem like the pros were for him. College level may be more of his area (mentoring/recruiting).

How did the secondary look while he was at Ole Miss? That's probably a more accurate assessment.

This is old but gives some good stats while a college coach:

McGriff's secondary produced 12 interceptions, three returns for touchdowns, eight tackles behind the line of scrimmage and more than 20 pass breakups. The group was also responsible for returning interceptions for TDs in three consecutive games for the first time in school history. McGriff tutored senior Casey Hayward to All-America status from several sources, including the Walter Camp Foundation and Rivals.com. He finished the regular season fourth in the SEC interceptions. In addition, junior Trey Wilson put together his finest year with career highs in interceptions, passes defended and total tackles. McGriff's season in Nashville was preceded by four at Miami, where he mentored some of the ACC's top defensive backs. He coached former Hurricane All-American safety and 2009 NFL first-round draft pick Kenny Phillips for two seasons, as well as All-ACC cornerback Brandon Harris and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong. McGriff also helped mold Sam Shields from a wide receiver to a defensive back, who is now starting for the Green Bay Packers. McGriff's 2010 unit helped Miami rank second nationally in pass defense allowing just 164.3 yards per game. The Hurricanes, who posted their third straight winning season and a Sun Bowl appearance, also ranked No. 16 nationally in total defense (317.2 ypg) and No. 21 in scoring defense (19.7 ppg). Strong play in the secondary helped the Hurricane defense rank sixth nationally in quarterback sacks.

If TRob is a Tier 1 kind of guy, then I'd put McGriff at Tier 2. I think it's a great hire for DBs. The co-DC part is strange, though.
Surprised Steele signed up for this

If I had to guess I would say McGriff is a Co-DC like Craig is a Co-OC

Charlie Harbison was Auburn's "Co-Defensive Coordinator"
It is a title guys ask for to help their career. Steele isn't going to defer anything to him he doesn't want to.
