Win all three and we are borderline host material.
Would have to beat Kennesaw & Morehead too. Kennesaw gives us fits at times.

ETA: Also get to the SEC Tourney semis IMO.

The pitching has improved tremendously. Team is coming together. Beat Bama and we have a great chance to get in. Going to the Saturday game.

After all the weekend games factored in AU is now #19 in the RPI & has the #4 schedule in the nation.

Next up is a very winnable road series versus what will be a very desperate SCar. They just lost 2 of 3 to Tennessee. They have been handed one of the easier paths to a regional til now & squandered their opportunity. They had the luxury of playing the 3 worst teams in the SEC in UT, UGA, & Miss St but lost all 3 series going 3-6. With 2 of those series on the road a normal Cocky team would have gone 7-2 or 6-3 in those games. They now have a very tough hill to climb. W/ their SEC record & 9-12 & RPI @ 71 they have to take at least 5 of their last 9 SEC games but more likely 6 to make a regional. Furthermore they have to do so against 3 teams you don't want to see coming down the stretch. A hot Auburn team & then 2 of the best in LSU & TAMU. Good Luck Cocky!

According to Kendall Rogers and D1Baseball, Auburn sits outside the Top 25 at #26 or so.

I'm not so confident about our chances at South Carolina this weekend despite their struggles at Tennessee last weekend. If we take 1 I'd be alright. 2 I would be thrilled.

That was before the UGA series. Check it out now. LINK

I agree but it's still very winnable on paper.

Yeah. I just read Hoke's tweet about the D1baseball.com human poll & realized that's what you were referring to.

@BMattAU: Keegan Thompson visited with Dr. Andrews this week. No major probs but will rest his elbow again this week. He's week to week

I'd thought my own self crazy for what I'm about to say. If our pitching can keep up what they are doing then we can make regionals w/out Thompson pitching much but we will need him to make noise in the post season.

Our staff has an ERA of 0.83 the last 6 games including a 6-0 quality win tonight over RPI top 100 Kennesaw St.

Our updated RPI is 17. Our RPI needs going into today was 4 wins to be in the RPI top 32 so to be safe 2 wins above that likely puts us safely in. W/ the win tonight 5 more wins likely solidly gets us into regionals, 4 if they are all conference wins.

AUBURN, Ala. | Auburn will be without its ace pitcher for a second-straight week.

Sophomore Keegan Thompson will be held out of this weekend's series at South Carolina with discomfort in his elbow.

Thompson will miss his second-straight start.
"We had him play catch and he didn't feel comfortable," Auburn coach Sunny Golloway said. "He wasn't hurting but he didn't feel comfortable. We've got to be really careful ... Keegan has a legit chance to pitch in the big leagues."

Thompson was examined by Dr. James Andrews at his clinic in Pensacola, Fla., earlier this week.

"(Dr. Andrews) thinks it would be best if we rest him again ... we're week by week," Golloway said. "I'm praying hard but I still feel like we're going to get him back and when we do it's going to be a huge shot in the arm for a team that's playing pretty good."

Thompson will travel with the team this weekend.

"He's got to be with our club. Our club depends on him being around," Golloway said. "Our karma is good and our band of brothers so we won't break that up."

Thompson last appearance came in a 7-2 loss to Ole Miss April 18. He left the game after 2.0 innings with soreness in his elbow. He is 7-3 with a 3.17 ERA this season.

The Tigers and Gamecocks will play 6 p.m. CT Friday, 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Saturday's game will be carried on the SEC Network and Sunday's on ESPNU.

Something tells me there's a correlation in Thompson's elbow trouble and the insane amount of pitches he threw early in the season.

It's not insane. You young whipper snappers just aren't used to that kind of load. That was average back in the old days.

Not as hard, and not all throughout the year like kids do now.

Neighbor growing up was a cy young award winner/Pitching coach for world series team. Said that the difference is now every quality baseball player plays spring/summer/fall baseball from 10+ years old. You'll have kids who are the teams elite pitchers play 2-3 tournaments a month where they'll pitch the Friday + Sunday games to win.
