According to John Rothstein, Dollar is leaving AU for USF as an Assistant Coach

Chad Dollar is considered a high quality recruiter, especially of the Atlanta area. Dollar is an ATL native, dad was an ATL HS coach and he was an Assistant at Georgia Tech

For recruiting, this will be interesting to see how it affects some of our ATL commits/targets

2018-

4* PG Diane Wood- One of our top targets, Dollar was a key fixture in his recruitment along w Person and Bruce

5* PF EJ Montgomery- From ATL so may have some effect but sister plays at AU so shouldn't be huge

4* G Will Richardson- Believe he was the primary recruiter, probably a setback in a hotly contested recruitment

5* F Khavon Moore- ATL kid and longshot to begin with, probably off table now if he wasn't already

I'm sure it doesn't help. Let me make that clear. But Bruce has never struggled to recruit

Bruce had never Struggled to win before either. Recruiting while winning is much different than our current situation

Competition in ATL has increased drastically as well. Pastner at GT is relentless, Avery is making inroads and you still have Barnes/White/Martin who are new and had success in the city. Then you have to factor in the Blueblood/elite programs who take who they want

I'd love for us to hire either someone with NYC or INTL connections.

Dollar will have his hands full recruiting in Florida. Not worried about how this affects us in Atlanta

I'm not saying him recruiting against us but he was our ATL connection.

If his replacement isnt a great ATL recruiter, we are in a rough spot

Maybe we'll get a coach that can help with the defense

I don't think Steven Pearl is a great defensive coach

That was my first, second, and third thought.

I am not any type of BB expert, but I would think our first goal for a coach would be to help with defense. The best recruiter in the world cannot do anything if the team cannot win. And watching our team piss away 10-20pt leads tells me we have D issues.

I think the arugment is

"If I can recruit an elite defender out of HS, I don't actually need to be a good defensive coach"

I'm not super worried about defense, most of our defensive issues started showing when Spencer/Purifoy got injured. We weren't good before that, but the ugly fits nicely into their injury timeline

Shouldn't be a shock either, we were playing a HS Senior and Raw Project Freshman at center while TJ Lang/Crippled Purifoy were playing PF

If that wasn't bad enough, we had an undersized true FR point guard and true FR SF in there as well more often than not
