Exactly, Franklin hasn't been given that shot yet, but we sure as hell know what JJ is going to do. I'm all for letting him go all out with a months practice as the starter.

All that's great, but can you give me a reason that JJ should start over him at this point?

No.

I'm all for throwing JFIII out there if SW isn't at least 80% by the time bowl practice starts, because we know JJ isn't ever going to get any better.

But he's simply not a QB. He has no situational awareness, and if he hasn't acquired it by now he never will.

Besides, the guy wasn't even that highly thought of as a recruit. I don't understand why anyone ever thought he would succeed as a QB at this level.

Ya, it is crazy that JF3 hasn't shown live game awareness from all that quality experience handing the ball off

This is based on what, The 1 route pass plays Gus calls for him?

I doubt he is anything special at QB, but there is now way you could tell that based on his 12/19 58% 0INT passing thus far.

You mean like the following recent guys who've found success?

3* ATH Lamar Jackson - Heisman Favorite
2* Baker Mayfield - Walk On QB Heisman Finalist
4* DB Nick Marshall - Top 5 AU QB all time
2* QB Jerod Evans - VT dual threat QB

I was basing it on his inability to crack the starting lineup at EMCC, despite being the most physically gifted athlete on the entire team. Or maybe him quitting at F$U because he wasn't getting enough playing time as a redshirt FR (or maybe because Jimbo didn't think he had a future as a QB and tried to get him to play WR).
quote:

3* ATH Lamar Jackson - Heisman Favorite
#17 QB nationally in 2015, #51 player at any position in Florida according to Rivals. JFII was 25/NR when he came out of HS in 2013.
quote:

2* Baker Mayfield - Walk On QB Heisman Finalist

Mayfield led his Texas HS team to a state championship, had P5 offers, but claims he held out for one from TCU that never came. The fact that he 'walked on' to a starting role in his first game as a true FR at Texas Tech (apparently the first QB ever to do so at the FBS level) says a lot about his abilities.

4* DB Nick Marshall - Top 5 AU QB all time

Nick was primarily recruited as an athlete (18th best player out of GA), and had offers from most of the major SEC and ACC schools out of HS. When he got bounced from UGa he ended up going to Garden City CC where he was promised a shot at QB. He ended up with 37 TDs (18 passing, 19 rushing) and >4000 yards total offense as the starter there. JFII managed about 1200 yards and 16 TDs (7 passing, 9 rushing) mostly in mopup duty at EMCC.

2* QB Jerod Evans - VT dual threat QB
This guy finally makes your point for you: unheralded and unranked by the recruiting services, signed by USAF but tore an ACL before he saw the field, he ended up at Trinity Valley CC...where in his second year he had a 38-3 TD-to-INT ratio.

Yeah, I can totally see where JFIII = Jerod Evans. My bad.

Seems like there's a lot of confusion as to why JF3 was recruited and not utilized.

The answer is simple and disappointing. He was recruited to give a run threat at QB. He was recruited to be part of a 2QB system that was abandoned and now he's in a position where he's QB2 behind a guy that can't throw.

Our coaches never tried to develop him as QB that would play with the intention of running an entire offense. This is probably why old baw wants to leave now and rightfully so.

That's a more plausible explanation than "he's a potentially awesome DT QB except our coaches are actively conspiring to prevent him from becoming one".

I still lean towards "we screwed up and signed this guy thinking he could lead an offense, when he's been unable to demonstrate and kind of ability to do so". But your version is equally logical.

In either case, Gustav/Lashlee have failed yet again at QB evaluation/development. It's truly a wonder that SW looks as competent as he does when healthy.

I wonder how many times our qbs are actually givenot the choice to keep the ball. Theread have been several times with all qbs they could've went 10 yards untouched if they had kept it. JJ kept on in the IB because the DE was about to yltake the handoff. You could tell it caught KJ off guard because he was steadily trying to take it from Jj.

Even with all of JF3's shortcomings, he throws the deep ball better than anyone else on the team.
