quote:

"Auburn is paying Gus Malzahn $50 million [Malzahn’s seven-year contract pays him $49 million], and he underachieved again," the SEC coach told Lindy’s. "If Nick Saban had Auburn's talent, he'd have won national championships the last two years. Auburn had the best front seven in college ball last year, but the offense sometimes disappears.

quote:

"If Gus would leave (offensive coordinator) Chip Lindsey alone, Auburn would be more explosive. Instead, they lost to Central Florida (in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl) and got the crap kicked out of them by Georgia in the SEC championship game after beating Georgia a few weeks before. And they give him a new contract? For what? Mediocrity?"

Harsh. I disagree with his comment about giving Saban the roster and winning the last two championships. Hell, Saban has the best roster in every game he plays, but still loses games. I agree with his comment on leaving Chip Lindsey alone.

Auburn was backed into a corner on that contract. People focus only on that 49 million number, but forget what the big picture was.

Nick Saban had better than Auburn's talent & "only" won 1 national title last 2 years so take that anonymous coaching man

So, would Nick Saban have lost to Alabama then if he was coaching Auburn last season? How does this work?

I still kind of agree with the part of Lindsey at times. I know it will never happen.

I don't know how any of this works

Just thought it was funny this anonymous coach thinks Saban would have won 2 titles the last 2 years with Gus's talent which is less than talent he currently has and he didn't accomplish that feat

I don't have a problem with Gus being involved. He's produced some of the best offenses Auburn's ever had. I do wish he would stop doing stupid shite. As long as he's our HC he's gonna have a major voice about how the offense is run

Also how the hell is winning the SEC West mediocrity? Someone is super pissed they aren't getting paid

He'll obviously been involved. No doubt about that. He is the head coach, it is unavoidable. I just mean more on the play calling. Everyone knows he dictates what plays are called, or at least run/run type vs pass/pass type on occasion. Our in-game playcalling is too wildly inconsistent in style for him not to be.

So is it thought that Gus did not have anything to do with the offense when Auburn beat #1 team in the nation in back to back weeks but the next week when we lost, he was medaling?

Makes me think this quote came from one of the posters on this board

I'm also not sure that SEC championship game was us getting the "crap" kicked out of us. Wasn't it 7-13 majority of the game?

Yea we fell apart late in that game, but we got the crap kicked out of us

So far, Gus has had a problem closing seasons. He definitely does not seem like he has figured out bowl games yet. We've seemed to come out okay in bowl games, but can never finish anything.

The biggest thing that bothers me about Gus' coaching is the lack of halftime adjustments and how he sticks to the game plan no matter how ineffective the original game plan is.

I don't buy this stuff anymore. Reads like the author just throws out what he thinks will get reactions, and ties "anonymous SEC coach" for extra reaction.

Exactly. Reads like a half-baked, shitty opinion from a rival fan.

while the SECCG sucked (at least the 4th quarter did), we were #2 heading into that game, after playing arguably the toughest regular season schedule in the country

not sure how that = mediocrity

Who are they asking, GA's?

There is so much wrong with what they said or not that simple anyway, that the things they get right gets lost.

But it will give power to the simpleton's on here who love what they said.

This is one reason I could care less about SEC Country getting the axe. That site is one of the worst at throwing shite in the wind and watching where it lands.

fricking terrible journalism and a shitty site overall.... They can all collect food stamps for all I care

Bunch of pot stirrers.

Yes, this is correct. It's dumb to say mediocrity. We just looked sloppy at the bowl, and I do blame Gus for that and the LSU loss he deserves a kick in the arse.

Nothing but BS -- Saban has the most talent in CF - AU roster would be a downgrade. These guys make shite up and credit to anonymous source

No one in their right mind would give someone a contract extension and a raise for the performance of the last several years. I understand this is a competitive business and the SEC West is tough, but are we really getting our moneys worth? I would have let him walk during the negotiations. That is an insane amount of money for mediocrity and if we completely bomb the next few years, we’re stuck with him. I hope I’m wrong, but I fear that the next few years we’ll be going 8-5 and 7-6 again and everyone on here will be calling for his firing again but the buyout will be too much.
