national exposure

With the SEC network, the popularity of the game, the UA commercials, are we still really clamoring for this? So much so we can't play a team that's close by for our fanbase and is a historic rival.

Give me a break.

in the era of the playoff committee, where the whole thing is basically one big 14 week beauty contest?

are you serious?... we gained so much more nationally this season by beating a good Big12. We were the talk of the college football world. No way we would've gained that kind of exposure by beating tech (who was actually the better football team).

yea, I don't think we shouldn't play Ga tech for any of those reason you listed.

Help me along since obviously I'm old and slow for wanting to play Ga Tech.

If we play them, instead of say some good big 12 school then we can't make the playoffs? Or it will significantly hurt our chances?

here are my three reasons for not playing tech (in order):

- unorthodox offense
- no buzz nationally
- cut blocking

Look at the four teams that made it to the four team playoff this year... all four had major primetime OOC matchups that created tons of buzz nationally... Oregon/Mich St... OSU/VT... FSU/Ok St... Bama/WVU. TCU played Minnesota in a game no one gave a sh*t about and they got left out.

if we're potentially vying to be a 2nd SEC team in the playoffs, beating a major OOC opponent would matter.

I am all for playing GT after Paul Johnson leaves. I love watching his offense tear into defenses just not my team's defense.

I wouldn't mind opening with them. It would be a quality Big 5 team to play.

Would be in favor big time. Paul Johnson's whacky option gives me reservations but not enough to outweigh the benefits imo.

So all the listed benefits by those in favor of the game in this thread:
1) personal reasons like going to watch a game in Bobby Dodd's crackerjack box
2) a pajama parade
3) tradition

I'm all for tradition.. except for this one. frick any idea of possibly playing Tech. As much as we bitch about playing Clemson, they're the bigger name by a mile now. Nobody gives a shite about GT football anymore. Call me whatever name in the book you believe is appropriate but the nostalgia of this isn't worth it.

Are you frickers that fond of the memories of Reggie Ball torching our defense? Or did we suddenly forgot how mediocre GT teams have snuck up and bit Auburn in the arse before conference play even begins.

Play them. I can respect the gripe about style but this what if a perfect storm happens and because we played ga tech we don't make it into the playoffs just stikes me as typical auburn fan paranoia.

Sat in the best seats Ive ever had at JH that day. The name Reggie Ball still gives me the mouth sweats.
COULD WE PLEASE SCHEDULE A HOME & HOME WITH A WEST COAST TEAM. Its not like you have to ride trains anymore, they have 2 playoff games at neutral sites now so we know they dont give shite about fans showing up. Auburn is a top 15 team all time, lets try for a bigger fish!

Good news is our schedule is full until 2021 at the earliest

2015 Louisville
2016 Clemson
2017 @Clemson
2018 ?
2019 Cal
2020 @Cal

We could fit them in for 2018 if they really wanted a 1 year neutral site game

I'm down for playing Tech about twice a decade. It should take the place of playing Clemson ever again.

I do agree with all the PJ concerns though. Generally playing GT is a moderate risk/low reward game, but it is pretty solid from a fan and tradition perspective.
