As 21 might lead in with "Well....hey...."

I came across the story below and thought someone might enjoy a change of pace thread:

Reading that reminded me of Win Lyle, with whom I went to school at AHS, and later became a damn solid kicker for AU. Fortunately or not, he is probably best remembered for this:

In any case, it is always good to hear of AHS players staying home and playing for AU even if they have to walk on. Radio doesn't count and screw Rashaan. WE.

Phillip Yost (kicker in the early-mid 2000s) was also from AHS... he never quite lived up to the hype though.

What's size difference between college and high school footballs? Does that make a difference in kicking?

I was c/o '88, but mom continued to teach in #516 until 2006 or so and retired after 35 years. She had had enough (confiscating a gun in class, spoiled kids, crappy parents, etc.). Still lots of great memories from AHS in the '80's!

The major difference is high schools use a tee... That's part of what makes projecting college kickers so hard

Yep, but most kids can make the transition to ground. It just takes some getting use to

Not sure about now, but when I was school, most kids that were being recruited and making the camp circuit were already kicking off the ground or at least a smaller block to help ease the transition.

Not AHS, but at AU from 87-91 and friends with a ton of former AHSers/then AUers during that time span, so I'll give a small world

Good point... most guys who are going to play high major college are doing the kicking camp circuit... pretty sure that's how auburn found out about Carlson and Parkey.
