Hindsight is 20/20, but I honestly think he is the best high-school quarterback Gus Malzahn has ever recruited (meaning he had committed and/or signed).

That is really not saying much.

Can someone layout who we are looking at for RB? We are in certain need for RB and looks like we are not even in the running for any of the top backs

TIA

What makes you say that? I think he is kind of underwhelming as a RB. He will probably be more of a Ricardo Louis type athlete without RL's athleticism. .

They have him listed as ATH. Do we have a true RB in this class?

We could really use one

The juco Octavious Matthews is a true RB. I don't know how good he actually is though.

we also got the Baylor transfer from the last class that will help depth even if he isn't an every down banger.

First off I am far from a talent scout. I just watch hudl highlights so everything underneath here is pure speculation from an amateur

We have 2 that could play RB already committed but they are recruited as athletes so they could slide out to wideout although Matthews seems like a pure RB to me

1.) 4* ATH Alaric Williams
- Been committed since last July. Honestly he doesn't have the most amazing highlights. He isn't that explosive imo but he has the frame to be big enough to be an inside the tackle guy. He supposedly runs a 4.5 but he doesn't run away from a lot of guys. He does seem to have pretty good vision and can take the hits
hudl page

2.) 3* JUCO ATH Octavius Matthews
- Flipped to us from Louisville after BCW. I am really high on this kid. He is a one cut and go type of runner. Doesn't dance much and looks like he has the breakaway speed. Personally I think he is the #2 back next season behind Kerryon. Looks like a perfect fit for our system in my amateur eyes
hudl page

We are targeting one more RB as we have recruited the 2 above guys as "athletes". Of the three I am listing here I think only one seems likely to sign with AU but will mention a few other targets that KN has mentioned recently

1.) 4* RB Devan Barrett
- Battling Tennessee/UNC/Notre Dame for him, he's former teammates with Nate Craig-Myers. Right now this is probably the most likely option as our 3rd take. Dude is explosive and had a big junior year. I think he's a guy that fits really well into our offense also. Currently around 6'1" 190 lbs but probably could play with same explosveness at 200. I think he's a better RB prospect than Alaric
hudl page

2.) 5* RB Cam Akers
- Former Bama commit. Dude is a beast. Already got the size to play & would probably contribute day 1. I think we are extreme longshots here but we are at least in the hunt. Ohio State/Ole Miss/Tennessee are probably the top 3 with LSU a darkhorse. Would't get hopes up but we will probably get an official from him (my opinion)
hudl page

3.) 4* RB Ty Chandler
- Ole Miss legacy that visited AU a while back & really liked it but hasn't been back since. Apparently his recruitment has been pretty quiet. Highly doubt he ends up at AU but KN mentioned him on big board so thought I would throw him out there

If we can get Barrett then this is a strong RB class. Won't have the stars of Kerryon Johnson or Jovon Robinson but I think Matthews at least could step in day 1 & play. Also remember we got Kam Martin in transfer with Kerryon coming back next season. I think we will be fine at RB in 2017

War Damn BBQ updates all courtesy of KN. I know a lot of you are going to love this but apparently we are having some sort of Pokemon Go activity. Guys are all over campus hunting pokemon

- First recruit to arrive was 2018 ATH Nathaniel Watson. Steele was first to greet him, probably a LB target

- 4* AU commit Nick Brahms is there with his whole family. His sis is rooming with Herb Hand's daughter. Dude knows how to recruit

- 3* OG Michael Minihan here & getting some time with Hand

- 3* S Jordyn Peters made it, he is on commit watch. KN thinks he's a take but apparently he might take his time & not pull trigger this weekend

- Former bama commit 4* S Xavier McKinney stayed the night and is at the event. Clemson the favorite but we are trying to get in the race. Tweeted he is having a good time

- 3* CB Traivon Leonard apparently stayed the night as well to be at bbq. Currently committed to UNC

- Big surprise visitor 4* OT Adrian Ealy. Looks like an LSU lean at moment but always good to get guys on campus

- 2016 signee Tashawn Manning is there with his family. He recently got the all clear I believe from doctors being cancer free

- Big time DE target 4* Ryan Johnson arrived decked out in AU gear. Probably an AU/AL battle but Stanford team to watch as well as his family is big on academics

- 4* AU commit ATH Malcolm Askew made the trip. One of our best recruits turned recruiters & loathed by bama fans because he doesn't think they are gods. He apparently has been working on Ryan Johnson, KJ Britt, Tray Bishop & Jordyn Peters

- AU commit 4* OT Austin Troxell arrived with family decked out in AU gear. First event where he is trying to recruit guys

- 4* ATH Tray Bishop showed up with like 10 people. Scott Fountain has spent whole day with him & his family, he is his area recruiter

- Bo Jackson's nephew WR Sheldrick Johnson from Hoover is apparently there

- 5 day AU commit 4* JUCO WR Brandon Martin visiting as well. Still a top WR target for us & apparently we still lead with UF #2. He is visiting with 3* WR teammated & Arkansas commit Jonathan Vance

- 3* LB DeAndre Wilder visiting again with his dad who lives in Atlanta. KN says AU, Michigan, Michigan State & Notre Dame are his top 4

- A WR target to watch 4* Henry Ruggs made the trip. He might not have a spot with bama & if so we could profit from it. Yay for bama scraps.... But dude is a good recruit

- 2018 4* OL target Tank Jenkins from Montgomery, AL is here as well

- Bad news 3* Tyrone Truesdell not making the trip. Our DT recruiting hasn't been amazing to this point...

- 4* LB KJ Britt & his family made the trip. KN says staff very happy with his progress over the past 6 months. Apparently he has improved his work ethic & it's showing. I know there have been rumors about playing games behind scenes but sounds like staff is happy with how he is maturing (giggity). Also Brahms family spending a lot of time with Britt

- #2 JUCO player on campus, 4* DE Isaiah Buggs. Garner has made him a priority. LSU is the favorite but don't count us out

- 4* LB Tyler Taylor made it as well & apparently we are trending. He is former teammates with Derrick Brown. I think he replaces Ignont in this class. He made trip with his mom

Buggs staying the night. Apparently he has spent whole visit hanging out with Garner not even really touring the campus and stuff because he has seen it all already

BBQ wrapping up. Sounds like a good day for AU

- Unfortunately for us all 2* CB Shawn Shamburger did not make the trip however he did decommit from ULL. Fire up the it's happening gifs

- 4* DE Isaiah Buggs is staying the night in AU. Sounds like we are trending some with him but LSU will be tough to beat

- 3* Michael Minihan had a great visit but did not receive an offer. Says if AU does it would be a real option

- Tashawn Manning apparently is enrolling in January & is working to get back on field by next fall. Pretty awesome for him

- JUCO WR Isaac Zico made trip. AU is apparently evaluating him right now

- 2018 LB Nathaniel Watson names AU his leader. Only 15 years old but is 6'4" 215 lbs. Apparently he is great nephew of Tommy Agee

- 2018 3* DT Coynis Miller got bama offer yesterday. Said visit went well. This will be a battle to watch next cycle as many expect his rating to go up

- 3* LB De'Andre Wilder says AU/Miami are co leaders. Will take his official visit for Clemson game. Location isn't an issue because his dad lives in Atlanta

- It was thought 4* S Devon Hunter didn't make trip but turns out he did. Big for AU

- 3* ATH JaTarvious Whitlow also made it there late afternoon

- Sounds like we nailed Bishop's visit. KN said he could announce Monday. Remember he was supposed to announce July 25th but after UF visit postponed

- Brandon Martin is also staying the night

- 4* S Xavier McKinney had great visit & AU is in the hunt but Clemson probably still leads. Wants attend AU/Clemson game

- Things are heating up between 4* WR Henry Ruggs & AU. He postponed his decision & apparently really liked Kodi Burns. He only recently started playing football so a little raw but great athlete

- Some guys still there are KJ Britt, Tyler Taylor, Isaiah Buggs, Brandon Martin, Devon Hunter & JaTarvious Whitlow. Curious to see any updates on Hunter

Tyler Taylor left without speaking to any reporters but apparently had great visit. KJ Britt & his family is also staying the night

Apparently Buggs is spending a lot of time with Devaroe Lawrence & Maurice Swain. Also we have moved into top group with Xavier McKinney

KN says sources close to program believe weekend was a big success but at end of the day they have to win. If they have good year on field they think this will be a very strong class

Also Brandon Martin answered "no comment" to anything related to his decommitment

Yea, it really is hard to get too excited or down about recruiting knowing if we don't win this season it's all gonna be totally up in the air anyway.
