I have no problems with calling a Stanford degree a prestigious degree. What do you expect me to say about a Stanford degree other than that its "prestigious"?

It seems to me that you are the one that has a problem with it and you're the one acting like a prick.

A Stanford/Ivy League degree will get you through that first door.

After that door, it doesn't matter.

A Citadel or VMI degree (et.al.) is more valuable to life-time job security than others IRL.

In Jangs defense, he was using "may" as a comparative device and not questioning if it actually is prestigious

You're the only one picking the fight in this instance. He didn't say a Stanford degree may be prestigious. You took his statement out of context.

Indeed. I trust that he misinterpreted my statement.

One of the biggest issues on this board is there are too many folks determined to be right about anything that we get side tracked in these pigeon hole discussions that are far away from where the discussion began.

Nothing wrong with what Janga said.

KN has an insider wrapping up the weekend

- AU is feeling good about 4* LB Tyler Taylor & 4* DE Ryan Johnson but not overconfident. As of now KN thinks we land both. Johnson says he would have been a lock to AU if he hadn't been accepted to Stanford but now it's a real fight. He might have decision by this Friday but could possibly stretch till next Monday. LSU has really sold Taylor on their need for LBs which has brought them even with AU. However LSU is trending for 4* LBs Willie Gay & Jacob Phillips. Taylor's mom loved AU visit which helps a lot and Taylor & Derrick Brown are good friends. It sounds like KN more confident in Johnson than Taylor at this time but thinks both end up with AU

- Staff was feeling pretty good about 5* OT Calvin Ashley sticking they now feel real confident. They believe Ashley when he says he's shutting it down and he's already planning on coming to visit for spring practice. No doubt Maryland will keep pushing but it sounds like visit might have sealed the deal

- 4* DE Markaviest Bryant is of course a top target. He is officially visiting Arkansas this week then AU this weekend. Tigers are thought to be running #2 with UGA but feel they are still in the hunt but this will be a tough one to overcome. The expectation is if we miss on Bryant probably won't take more than 2 DL (expecting to land Johnson). KN says plan was always to load up on DL next year and signing on 2 guys this year would reinforce that next season

- As of now unless AU can land another high quality WR then will probably only sign 1 this season. Staff feels like they have are in good standing with some good 2018 WRs like 4* Justyn Ross & 4* Jacob Copeland. The hope was 4* WR Oliver Martin would visit this weekend and they had set up an official with him but this past week Michigan & Ohio State got back involved in his recruitment. Staff still hoping to get him on campus but not a lot of confidence it will happen. KN says WR name to watch is 3* Jafar Armstrong. Current Mizzou commit that could visit next weekend

- KN says don't be surprised if another FB visits next weekend. NR FB Alex Medary could be a target. Honestly I expect staff gives Lasater go ahead to commit this weekend but who knows. FB recruiting this cycle has been weird

- Louisville 247 site reported that 3* TE Kemari Averett might visit AU this weekend. KN not sure if that will happen but something to watch

- Apparently AU is out of the race for 3* JUCO OT George Moore. He needs one more math class to be able to get into an SEC school and apparently has decided not to do the work so he won't be signing with any SEC school. AU continues to pursue 4* OT Kai-Leon Herbert who decommitted from Michigan yesterday. The thought though is this is a Miami/Florida battle so we will see

Not quite sure who we finish this class with and if the non back counting rule goes through then saving space this class won't help us next season. I still feel we get Lasater, Johnson & Taylor. After that we have 3 spots left and I have no idea who we land. Sounds like a 2nd TE could get into the picture, I imagine we will try and find a 4th OL then maybe a 2nd WR would be my guess but we will see. Here's to hoping Bryant likes his hookers next week and we steal him on NSD to continue the tradition of pissing off UGA fans on NSD

Report: Auburn target Thomas Johnston eliminates Tigers (SECCountry)
quote:

Thomas Johnston is reportedly down to three schools, and Auburn is not one of them.

The 3-star linebacker from Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School told Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett that he has dwindled his list down to Ole Miss, Iowa and Arkansas.

Johnston took an official visit to Auburn on Jan. 13 where coach Gus Malzahn asked him to commit as an H-back — a hybrid fullback/tight end position.

“Everybody else is looking at me as a linebacker. I also told them if I did play H-back in college, it would be at Auburn just because of what they do with them,” Johnston told SEC Country’s Benjamin Wolk. “Coach Malzahn told me that he wants me to play for his team. He wants me just to be around. He said I’m a fit for Auburn and I mean that says a lot. He asked me to commit this morning and asked where I stood. I know I’m at the top of their list right now so I’m excited about it.”

Despite Malzahn’s pitch, it appears that Johnston has had a change of heart. Alabama’s all-time career tackles leader wants to play linebacker at the next level, which is a possibility at each of his three finalists — not at Auburn.

Not sure if we missed on Taylor if we called & say we would take him as LB if he would jump on board but I don't doubt we would try at least

Auburn 5-star commit Calvin Ashley completely shuts down recruitment after official visit (SECCountry)
quote:

During his visit, Ashley talked extensively with offensive line coach Herb Hand and met new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. The 5-star offensive tackle said he is impressed with Gus Malzahn’s new hire.

“Coach Lindsey just came in, just talked to him,” Ashley said. “We’ve got a great relationship. He’s a great coach. His background speaks for itself. I can’t wait to get back to work here in the summer. It’s going to be a great season for Auburn.”

Ashley might play an important role in Lindsey’s first season on the Plains.

Hand sees him as a left tackle, and he could compete for a starting job as the Tigers look to replace two seniors on their line in 2017. It’s rare for true freshmen offensive tackles to play immediately in the SEC, but Ashley is ready for the challenge.

“I know Coach Hand is going to give me plenty of opportunities to prove myself,” Ashley said. “I’m going to work. I’m going to come in working and try to earn a spot. I just can’t wait to get here.

“I’m trying to work very hard to come in and play early as a true freshman. That’s big for me. I want to make a name for myself early in my career. It’ll be good.”

Before he arrives in Auburn this summer, Ashley finally can relax after a long recruiting process. He’ll spend the final few days before signing day completely focused on Auburn.

“It was very important (to shut the recruitment down early),” Ashley said. “Recruiting sometimes is very stressful, you know? I love Auburn. I love it. It’s a great place.”

Auburn LB target Tyler Taylor announces top 2 schools (SECCountry)
quote:

“I think it’s going to be between Auburn and LSU,” Taylor said.

Taylor confirmed that both programs have jumped ahead of Oklahoma, who was originally believed to be one of the teams to beat.

The Sooners likely will make a late attempt to push for Taylor. But Auburn and LSU will both make in-home visits at the beginning of the week, which will give Taylor some time to process his options before making a decision. He anticipates he will have an answer for coaches by the end of the week.

“I’ll probably be letting the coaches know at least by Thursday,” Taylor said.

Auburn has always been a part of the conversation for Taylor. His mother loves it. Taylor’s relationship with Travis Williams is as strong as his bond with any other coach.

It has made Auburn a top contender since the beginning. As his commitment approaches, that thought is as strong as ever.

“My mom really loves it out here. All the schools, coaches are nice and all that. But they’re recruiting. We don’t know how they’re really going to be. But at Auburn, we really know they’re going to take care of us,” Taylor said.

LSU is the late addition to the group.

Taylor visited the Tigers last weekend. He said LSU began picking up his recruitment right around the time Monty Rice flipped from LSU to Georgia. He has been impressed by the work of Ed Oregon and Dave Aranda.

“They showed me the depth chart with the linebackers. I’d really have no choice but to play there. They’re not giving it to me, but you know, you’ve got to work for it and all that.

That PT angle seems to be working real well. For once AU actually has quality and depth at LB while LSU doesn't. What a weird world

Talented guard Kai-Leon Herbert de-commits from Michigan, considering Florida and Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage 4-star OT commit Kai-Leon Herbert told Land of 10 on Sunday that he has de-committed from the Wolverines following a visit to Miami.

Herbert had been wavering on his commitment for some time, but finally made the decision on Sunday.

“Things just went south,” Herbert told Land of 10. “There were some other factors … it just wasn’t good.”

One of Herbert’s main recruiters was Jedd Fisch, the quarterbacks coach who earlier this month left Ann Arbor to become offensive coordinator at UCLA. He told Land of 10 that was among the reasons that stood out and led to his decision.

He is down to Auburn, Florida and Miami. I have my 247Sports Crystal Ball on the Gators.

Auburn target Ryan Johnson talks final decision, Stanford acceptance (SECCountry)
quote:

Between Auburn and Stanford, Johnson said he feels like he is closing in on a decision, but he wants to wait until the end of the week or early next week to finalize his commitment.

“They’re pretty even honestly. They’re really good schools,” Johnson said. “I’m trying to figure it all out.”

Once he received the Stanford acceptance, it changed the game for Johnson.

Luckily for Auburn, the Tigers were able to host him on an official visit immediately after. The combination of Auburn players from Mobile and Auburn commits also on campus gave the Tigers a strong push throughout the weekend.

“I’m just happy to be back up here. I haven’t been up here since a football game, so I loved it,” Johnson said. “I didn’t want to make any hasty decisions considering I’m (committing) either Friday or Monday. I didn’t want to jump the gun on anything. I’ve got to go home and write down the pros and cons.”

Stanford will give Johnson an in-home visit Tuesday. Auburn will make the trip Wednesday.

What will help either school stand out?

“Somewhere I’m comfortable with. Somewhere, if I get hurt, I can see myself there taking regular classes, getting along with players and coaches. Somewhere with a winning program,” Johnson said. “Nobody likes losing, so I’ve got to go somewhere I can win.”
