KN claims that there is chatter regarding us sniffing around on Roquan Smith. I doubt we get him, but worth noting I guess.

If that's the case, maybe we should've just taken the kid from tucker and been done with it.... oh well.

Rivals Wrapup - Free Content LINK

The eight signees from Florida are the most under Malzahn at Auburn. The Tigers signed two in 2014 and four in 2013.

SUPERLATIVES
Most important get for the offense: FB Chandler Cox
Auburn needed a Jay Prosch 2.0 last year in the backfield, but didn't have it. The Tigers hope they do now with the four-star Cox, who already is taking classes and getting ready to participate in spring practice.

Most important get for the defense: DE Byron Cowart
Auburn's top pass-rushing threat in 2014 was DeVante Lambert, who had 3.5 sacks all season. The Tigers had to have immediate help on the edge, so they went out and signed the best end in the country.

Biggest in-state get: RB Kerryon Johnson
Johnson is one of the most electrifying players in the country, and now he'll be playing in one of the most electrifying offenses.

Biggest in-state miss: DT Daron Payne
The only thing lacking from Auburn's class was a dominating defensive tackle. The Tigers signed Maurice Swain and Jauntavius Johnson, but was a Daron Payne or Terry Beckner away from a perfect class.

DT, Ivey, and a Godwin/McCloud/Cain type.

Ivey

Sucks to miss out on a kid of that talent but he wasn't a "need." Our OL looked promising and we don't have an immediate need anyways

Godwin/McCloud

Ryan Davis is that type of player and some people put him in the same talent category. Watch his highlights and you'll see a kid who can make incredible moves in space. May not have the topend speed of McCloud/Godwin but he will be dangerous in that role

Cain

Darius Slayton fits the same role Cain would have played. He is 6'1, good ball skills and pretty good in space. Speed wise he is elite and has won 100/200m track state championship since he was a SO and runs sub 11 right now.

Seriously Cain and Slayton are cut from almost the same mold

DT kills us. Hopefully they are succesful transitioning guys like ANdrew Wiliams, Elijah Daniels and Devante Lambert to DT. If that works well we could be in okay poition with 2016 being a huge DT class for us

top QB

We have JJ and Sean White who are getting rave reviews. Add in Jason Smith and Tyler Queen as EEs should at least be serviceable and we are fine if we get someone in 2016. Have to get an elite 2016 QB though

We definitely didn't need an Elite QB this class.

Only position we struggled on was DT. I guess you could argue we didn't get any true "elite" LBs depending on where Holland ends up position/JUCO wise, but I think everyone was happy with our haul.

While we may not have filled every need with "elite" talent, we got enough depth of quality at each need that when it shakes out we should have filled all our needs very well.

I agree with you on the quarterback assessment. Queen will be a good backup and possible 1 or 2 year starter at best but quarterback wasn't a position of need unless JJ and White just shite the bed completely, then you still don't want to have to start a freshman.

DT and DE was the biggest gaps that needed filling along with 1 or 2 linebackers and some cover guys and we hit on most of those. I would have loved to get one more DT but we did get two which will be ok.

On the offensive side, we hit all of our NEEDS but missed on the elite tackle of the future, shite happens with that and he went where he grew up wanting to go to. I am glad we didn't waste a spot on a guy just to fill a roster spot.
