Be THE star and go to guy

I would go to Duke but for some kids, the sell can be attractive.

Look at a guy like Marshall Henderson who is an Ole Miss legend. He wasn't even that talented and didn't make the NBA.

If you are "the guy" and build a program, you will be remembered for it which is attractive. At Duke, you are just another guy in the line while at AU you can be a legend just by being quality Duke player level

This is what I think about. At Auburn, you can have a chance to have your jersey hanging in the rafters. At Duke, you may just be another bullet point in the season program.

It's not like there won't be people at Auburn to back you up either. If we pull a potential star like HS, there are plenty of guys in line to come to Auburn who will be supporting him.

JL could very well only be in college 1 year; if that were to happen he would not be at AU long enough to build a program up.

If he comes in and leads us to a successful season, gets some national spotlight as a star player and shows recruits what they can do at Auburn with Pearl then that's doing more to build the program than any other player has done at Auburn in 15 years

If JL is a one and done in college at AU, he probably did good enough to get his jersey in our rafters by our bball history.

1 year is enough to be special at AU

Daniels could play every position on the floor (except center) at an elite level... would love to have another dude like that on the roster.

Barbee connected with Marquis and during the offseason he'd come down to Auburn Arena and train. I enjoyed getting to know him but he's a really weird dude. Definite introvert in a social setting He'd shoot around after practice and would hit 85/100 mid range jumpers which still wasn't up to his expectation of himself. He'd mumble to himself chains of profanity that I didn't even know were possible.

Makes sense after all the times I heard Barbee say a variation of "fricking Chubb"

Sooooo him saying JL's fam wants and is pushing him to Duke is a really bad sign then on JL?

He doesn't fit the profile of your typical 1 and done player. Those guys typically leave after 1 year for 1 or more of 3 reasons: 1) highly likely top 10 pick; 2) family financial hardships; or, 3) unable or unwilling to remain academically eligible.

I don't think Josh fits any of those.

Yes but we haven't given up. Right now we are focusing on getting him to wait until the late period to sign.

https://scouthoops.scout.com/story/1524448-german-star-to-visit-michigan-more-on-him?s=75

quote:

At the age of 14, Wagner stood 6-foot-4 and played on the perimeter. Now just less than two months until his 18th birthday and Wagner is “stretch four-man” standing 6-foot-10 and weighing in at 205-pounds.
From the video I’ve been able to get my hands on, Wagner’s all around skill set is what immediately stands out. He has impressive hands, good touch around the basket and can score both facing the rim and with his back to it.

“He’s a versatile kid who knows how to play ball,” a NBA scout that has evaluated him multiple times told Scout. “He’s not an athlete, but with his length and coordination he manages to deceive his opponents and get to the rack quiet easily. Once he becomes a more consistent shooter he will be a nightmare on the wing.”

quote:

Wagner played in Fiba’s U18 European Championship for Germany in the B Division. Through six games, Wagner averaged 5.2 points and three rebounds in an average of 10 minutes a game.

“They want him to stay here and would love him to turn pro,” a source close to Wagner told Scout. “I’m not really sure if he wants to do that. He wants the NBA. The question is can the Alba Berlin team open the doors for that.”

While Alba Berlin will certainly want to sign him, Wagner is exploring the option of playing college basketball in the United States.

Among the schools that have reached out to Wagner, who would be eligible to play next season, are Michigan, UNLV, Providence, Auburn, Virginia and Arizona.

Do want. The article says he's visiting Michigan, what are our chances?

First I've heard of the kid was this article. Maybe marshall or lawson have heard something more about him and his recruitment.

There are some true heavy hitters listed as possibilities for him, but I would never count Bruce Pearl out when it comes to recruiting.

Nop clue. The AU insiders have not mentioned him and the AU pay sites do a horrible job of thoroughly covering basketball recruiting.

Most insiders get their info from either the AAU or JC circuits. Basketball recruiting is a lot more specialized so unless you know someone plugged into the foreign circuit info is going to be pretty sparse. Only thing I could add is that Person is supposedly connected in the foreign circuits so he is most likely the lead recruiter in this case.
