Crap deal? Ok guy, didn't realize you were the GM for both the Brewers and the Astros and you'd deemed Tucker and Brinson untouchable. I never said that was all that was in the deal, obviously i'm no GM, but those are solid pieces to start the conversation with. You can massage that into a doable deal.

While not an ace, Julio is a front-line starter that's controllable for the next few years at a very affordable price. His issues this year have to do with him pitching at SunTrust Park, where he is 1-7 with a 7.05 ERA. So get him away from STP...he's 6-0 on the road with a 2.53 ERA. It's widely known that the Brewers are looking for another front-line starter, and were "all in" on going for Jose Quintana. Julio is one of the next best available options.

Milwaukee's closer has blown five saves and has only had 21 opportunities...I would say it's a safe bet they're looking for a little bullpen help, and Vizzy could help out. Whether he's a closer there or not isn't for me to decide, but he's an effective arm. Hell throw in Jim Johnson for them, too. He can actually close, just not multiple games in a row.

And another minor league outfielder would help replace what they gave up in Brinson. Not nearly the same talent, but Dustin Peterson is someone who is ready to play in the bigs, if he were in a different organization. But with two veteran sticks taking up the corner outfield positions, there's not enough room at the inn.

Same goes for the Astros situation, they've been linked to Cole with the Pirates. Again, Julio is not of the same quality as Cole and/or Quintana, but he IS a front-line starter.

The deals certainly weren't perfect, but they're an outline. And as for untouchable prospects? If you're the Astros, who have never won a World Series, and you think you have the team to beat, and think solidifying what few weaknesses you have are doable by not dealing the whole farm system, you do it. The reason you have to give up that big name prospect is because of the years of control remaining on Julio's contract. It's not a 4 month rental. Dismissing the deals as crap seems a little silly to me.

Jose Quintana, a pitcher that has been consistently one of the best 10-15 pitchers in all of baseball the past 4-5 years got a top 10 prospect and another fringe top 50 prospect. Julio isnt getting that, or even close to that.

The Brewers do not need a closer. Knebel is 4th in WAR for relief pitchers this year, has a ERA of 1.79, FIP of 2.36, and strikes out 15 batters per 9. He's good. They could use another reliever but they can find a package thats cheaper than their best prospect. More than anything, the Brewers probably need another hitter. Maybe someone to play center since the guy they have currently has been worth 0.5 WAR and is hitting .220/.296/.420, and someone that can spell Braun in left since he is also have a horrible season. Who could do that? Maybe their top prospect who is MLB ready?

The Astros are close to getting Gray from Oakland. The same pitcher that has been a full time starter for 4 years and has been worth 2 full WAR more than Teheran in almost 80 less innings because he was injured last year, and Houston probably isnt giving up Tucker for him.

You bring up Dustin Peterson. The same guy that isnt even a top 15 prospect in the system. Someone that would be a throw in, not an integral piece of a trade.

Teheran, Vizcaino, Peterson for Isan Diaz, Phil Bickford, Kodi Medeiros would probably be good value from the Brewers.

Teheran, Vizcaino, Peterson for Derek Fisher, Daz Cameron, and Jorge Alcala would probably be fair for the Astros.

You can look at it this way as well:

Would you trade Acuna for Sonny Gray?

Trade is no longer imminent. Braves still want to move Garcia but it sounds like either Atlanta or Minnesota is reconsidering this deal
