Per Jeff Passan twitter.
For all the idiots that said Freddie would be a brave for life.
Braves send Pache, Langeliers, Cusick and Estes.
Big big price.

I'll view this trade in it's entirety at a later date. Today is just a big kick to the nuts.

Pache a an automatic out at the plate. Langeliers could maybe matter but I mean Travis D is generally considered around the 5th starting catcher in baseball so committing to him for a 3-4 plan isn’t outrageous. I get the Freddie love and it’s understandable but these are the kinds of moves and decisions that separate consistent contenders from one hit wonders every 20 something years.
How much complaining would you be doing in 2-3 years when Freeman is showing significant decline and we can’t afford Dansby or Fried?

I do as well. If moving on from freeman was inevitable then I can’t think of a better way to position ourselves for it.

Seems like a good trade to me although I know nothing about the 2 pitchers involved. Olson is a beast and technically had a better season than FF (in terms of WAR anyways)

Sounds like AA got sick of waiting on Freddie to make up his mind.

Kind of how I feel as well. Emotionally sucks to lose Freddie, but beyond that, the trade feels balanced to possibly slightly in favor of the Braves. Nothing given away that I think is irreplaceable and you fill a massive hole with an extremely talented younger option.

Langeliers is the one I hate losing the most in that trade…
As for Freddie, hate to see him go and I appreciate what he did for Atlanta, but I feel AA offered him a good deal at 5 yr/$135 mil before the lockout; that would’ve made him the highest paid 1st baseman in the majors and he turned it down. Sure, he can get more money with the Yankees or Dodgers but, at his age, that was probably close to the best the Braves could afford to offer if they wanted to sign any of the other key players from last year (Soler, Rosario, etc)…

Same.
Olsen is a STUD! And he's a local boy. Snellville. Parkview.

He’ll take a hometown discount. Primarily because no else will want him.

We are only at 137 million right now. I have no complaints about Anthopolis right now, obviously. However, we better have plans to add a couple of pieces with the revenue this team had last year. We should be 160-175, firmly in the top 6 or 7 payrolls in MLB, especially with only having to pay Matt 12 million the next two seasons.

The Dansby sucks narrative is one of the worst and laziest currently in sports

Hated to give up Langeliers, but I’m a Baylor Bear, so I wanted to watch him play for Atlanta.
Interested in who else Atlanta can sign. Could be a monster lineup.

The Braves unequivocally make out like bandits on this deal. I get it. It’s Freeman. He was the one constant throughout all the shite years of the rebuild and lead us to a World Series. But shrewd, forward brining, and intelligent teams don’t give massive contracts to someone entering what is most usually the end of players prime although I think Freeman’s style will age more gracefully than others. We got a player very close and possibly on the level of Freeman as Olson’s prime emerges for players we don’t need.
Our fans have bitched loud as frick for what seems like a decade about how all we do is hold onto prospects. So we move some for a player that couldn’t be more timely and fitting for what we need to replicate, which also buys us at least a two year plan on what to do it Olson doesn’t resign.

Really looks good after Olson signed an extension for 8/$168 million.

Depending on what Freeman signs for, he wanted 6 years at $180, so we may ended up savings upwards of $55 million with this deal, which lets us spend in other areas of need.
For all I know he'll still be playing like an MVP at the end of 6 years, but history tells us that's not likely the case, so paying a guy that's 37, 38 roughly $30MM a year is not a smart move. I'm sure the contract would have been front loaded, but still.
I hate to see the guy go, but damn, we offered him well beyond generational wealth and he turned it down. He could have made $270 million gross over 13 years with the Braves and a chance to possibly finish his career in front of a fan base that absolutely loves the guy.
Hopefully he didn't overplay his hand with LA and NY.

Hate losing Freddie, but I feel really, really good about the team in the immediate future.
AA is obviously very good at his job, but pulling trigger on Olson while Freeman was hemming and hawing was the correct move. We sit on our hands and lose Freddie, then the A's would have asked for even more than they already did.
Braves are set up nicely for a continued run while this current window is open.

I feel sorry for all the little kids and their Freeman jerseys.
