Atlanta Falcons 2022 Offseason Thread

There is reason to be optimistic. The new front office and coaching staff were dealt a bad hand.
I’m interested what trades (if any) they put together as well as what they can do in free agency with higher cap. If they can make some trades that make sense for some draft capital and clearing cap space that’s best case scenario.
There were reports that Pittsburgh Steelers are possibly interested in trading for Matt Ryan. I’d hate to see him go but it would definitely be best for the team going forward.

I don’t see any team making a trade for Ryan. He’s a mediocre to good qb at best. He’s also, what, 36?

You could be right. The Steelers were floated around over the last week or so to be interested.

Ryan ain't going anywhere. Give that shite up. He'll retire a bird.

Can't trade Matt. You'd have 40 MIL.in dead money.
You guys really need to read up on how the cap works in the NFL.
These types of threads are getting old.

So, first, this thread was not meant to harp on a rumor.
Second, the hit goes down significantly after 22 season but if a team traded for him and took on part of the salary and cap hit it could help in that regard.
Any way you look at it 22 will be his last season in Atlanta.

Yea I think Ryan wants to retire a falcon so he could hang it up in 1-2 years.

Well…
Per Chris Mortenson Matt Ryan will remain a Falcon in 2022.
My guess is extension likely coming to ease the Cap hit.

Picking #8 in the draft.

Not really sure this is a great idea anymore. We're not close to a championship run and doing this only prolongs him being QB1 for more like 4-5+ years rather than 2+.

Tip my cap to the Dawgs from last night as a Bama fan. However, someone may want to remind the Falcons that CLEARLY the ATL sports curse is over. Maybe the Falcons would like to jump on board?

That'd be sweet.
The NFL is now a league where 12 or so teams can get hot at the right time and win it.
I think the Falcons could be in that mix soon. Just have to see what happens in free agency.

If Pickens is there in the 2nd, we need to grab him. Get some pressure and coverage off Pitts. Seen some mocks have us grabbing the Safety Hamilton from the Irish in the first. Other mocks they see us taking the pass rusher from Purdue in the first. Since we are likely parting ways with Ridley, hoping we get a first or a second atleast

I know he’s not with our team anymore, but the NY Giants have a “strong” interest in Dan Quinn for their new head coach.

Yes, please.

Not gonna happen. Ridley doesn't have much value. 3rd at best.

The Falcons honestly need to blow it up and start from scratch. Get guys like Grady, Ryan, Jones off the books. Invest in young prospects and start looking for a future signal caller and build a line that's actually decent. Keep what few Line guys we have that are decent and invest in the future. AJ Terrell would be the only untouchable player on the roster.

What a fricking disaster that would be. Coach Bro and his coach speak with the NY media. Trainwreck I could definitely watch.

If the Niners' success hasn't proven that Quinn was useless without Shanahan, I don't know what will.

Off-season trending in the right direction. A few observations:
#1: The coaching staff we have in place is the real deal. The toughness and discipline of Smith's staff was so obvious in the back half of the season. We had PFF's worst ranked roster and won 7 games, and likely should have won 2 more (Carolina & Washington come to mind). Think about what we could have done with Ridley and Julio still in the fold... Point being - as we reload on talent, there will be a significant uptick.
#2: Losing to the Saints is always tough, but from a draft position and going to a 3rd place schedule is a massive advantage.
#3: We only need Tom Brady to complete the trifecta... Sean Peyton retired, Ben McAdoo is the OC in Carolina... these aren't little advantages our competition is giving us.
#4: Matt Ryan played extraordinarily well with his limited supporting cast last year. He has shown zero signs of decline - as a matter of fact, most pro football "experts" have noted his year was quietly one of the best of his career, considering the circumstances. Please get this man an offensive line and weapons. I see Ryan as the QB for 3-4 more years, and unlike a lot of fans (which is bizarre to me), I'm thrilled about that.
#5: Off-season needs: (1) offensive and defensive lineman. (2) A Wide Receiver. (3) Safeties. (4) A running back that can hopefully spell CP84.
#6: If we can get a first rounder for Calvin (with his talent and low, low cap-hit, it's not out of the question), then we should be in business come April. Would be 4 picks in the top-2 rounds with a full stable of picks behind it. This is where Terry Fontenot earns his keep.
Things are trending up. Braves, Hawks, college team aside, there is no bigger deal in the United States of America than winning the Super Bowl.
I think we may be back on track to that sooner than people think.

Sure.
If you want 40 MIL in dead money and unable to build a competent NFL roster.

Aside from Kenny Pickett, this ain't the draft to be looking for Matt's replacement.
