One thing I will not blame is our players. I thought they played their hearts out.

I'll leave it at that.

I'm not sure we watched the same game. We were bouncing off them all day and they consistently got second chance yards and yards after contact.

I thought our tackling was one of the more concerning aspects of our defense.

We tackled well in the first half. We made good open field tackles and stopped most guys on the first hit. The second half is where our tackling struggled. We got worn down and that is where our lack of depth was obvious. Our pass defense, though

I was in a semi-drunk semi-meltdown last night. I'm not going to apologize because meltdowns are a great way to cope with losses... everyone should try it sometime.

That said, I feel a lot more optimistic today. I do think we should have ran it more in the second half, but the play calling wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be.

I allow myself 1.5 hrs of melt per 1 hour of play. Anything more, and it just turns into feeling sorry for myself.

I also allow myself 2 years of hope for every one year of good play.

It's very therapeutic.

I'll hold any criticism because I did see improvement on both sides of the ball. We got beat by a much better team, but played with them and moved the ball well. After the pick 6 and rain delay our guys were dead. Same game in Fayetteville and we may see a totally different outcome. Hell, even the people watching the game with me were dead after that long as delay.

In fact, I think we looked MUCH better overall.

I'd like to know why TQ Coleman was matched up against their slot receiver for most of the game. That was as perplexing as anything

I'm curious to see how much longer Gaines gets to start. I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Liddell started next week.

I imagine he presents the best run/pass option as the nickel.

I've not chimed in on the game yet. I went to the lake right after the game.

What I saw was a lack of rotating the OL until it was too late. An extreme lack of concentration by the WR's. Allen and the WR's still aren't on the same page and that is a big time issue.

BA looked decent, and that's really all Bielema asks for out of his QB's. However, Chaney's play calling that seems to have a lack of check down options with routes that don't find soft spots (or it's that we have dumb WR's can't adjust and BA doesn't anticipate well) Outside of the first series the first half was exciting offensively. Everything we've been hoping to see was there. The OL just blasted Auburn and gave the backs room. Collins is our best back bar none. KM seemed a little hesitant for some reason, and Jwill is straight up N/S on the compass, he misses a lot of daylight and doesn't cut quick enough to get there when he does finally realize there's a hole outside of the main gap.

Defensively, dear God. Our secondary is so bad. Someone asked Why TQ was in and covering their slot guy, TQ is our nickel hybrid LB/S. He's a less athletic Jerrico Nelson, this is what we hope Coley can do in the future since he can run better than TQ. We didn't get a bit of pressure on Johnson he was comfortable in the pocket and had plenty of time to make smart throws. We were expecting to see more aggressiveness from Smith and it seems it came at the wrong times leaving guys on islands when they aren't talented enough to cover solo. I've not looked at the game replay but I'm starting to think we might should implement some 46 defense looks to get into 2 deep and zone coverages and mask blitzes. Our CB's can't hang, our LB's can't hang, our S are too slow to make up ground, it's just a disaster in the back 7. The shitty tackling is maddening this has been a thorn in our side since Reggie Herring was brought in as DC. It doesn't matter who's coaching them, our D outside of a few players a year just refuses to play sound fundamental defense. I don't get it, flat out can't understand it.

It seemed that Nick Marshall made our D hesitant and instead of playing in attack mode they were on their heels reacting slowly. We have some pretty good film on how to shut down Gus' offenses from Wily Robinson years, we might should watch some of that shite.

We've got to get some speed on this team. If just for depth and ST purposes we need to identify the 20-30 fastest HS players every year and make it imperative to sign 4-5 of them. The budget is there for recruiting. In the least guys like the HarBer RB that went to a juco for track should get preferred walk on invites. Playing against a super fast scout team can only improve the team.

I'm not enamored with 2B's in game coaching decisions. We really didn't see the wrinkles we were promised were coming. This is the season where he'll either solidify his ability in this league or we'll know that he really needs top shelf assistants to be successful and we'll have top open up the checkbooks to have a staff full of 500K to 1Million assistants.

I was very encouraged by the offense in the first half. This is what I expect BB's offense to look like.

The defense is cringe worthy, but I have to remind myself this is a top team at their house.

The next month will be telling, I'm wondering how many of these underclassmen will take on more significant playing time as the season goes on.

Just one game in right?

What other choice did we have? 5 can't block 8 or nine with a corner blitz or OLB blitz. It's not possible

if this were truely the case DMac FJones would have never been anything. You can still have success running the ball with 9 in the box, does it make it more difficult yes but should be expected from here on out. should we abandon the run for the rest of the year because every team we play wants to put 9 in the box and make us play to our weakness? I say man up and run over them around them and through them. Yes we should pass some to keep them honest but do not ever totally abandon our strength. It is all we have.
